John Robertson of the Perth
CMHA also disagrees with
the actions of the board of
directors at CMHA Huron.
Robertson said CMHA
Huron could find a "creative"
way to fulfill its work with the
amount of money it gets.
He. like Stock, pointed to
how the demise of CMHA
Huron would wipe out the
existing Nevada ticket rev-
enue and limit the ability of
another organization to pick
up CMHA Huron's work.
Although CMHA Perth has.
at a "housekeeping level."
assumed responsibility of a
CMHA Huron support group,
it remains to he seen what
organization has the resources
to fulfill the CMHA Huron
mandate for education and
advocacy of mental health
Issues, said Rohrrtson.
George Rimmer of Seaforth
brought a letter with 2(1 signa-
ture. supporting the continu-
ance of CMHA Huron to the
organization.s meeting on
Feb. 17.
Rimmer. a mcinhcr of a
HPDHC committee on mental
health and substance abuse.
had stopped being a member
of CMHA Huron. but wanted
to join again.
He was told CMHA Huron
would not accepting any more
members.
Rimmer said that decision
"virtually cuts off the possibil-
ity" of what he would Iikc to
see happen with CMHA
Huron: the current hoard of
directors resigning so a new
hoard could try to keep the
organization going.
Wooden did not eliminate
the chance of the current
membership concluding the
organization could he main-
tained.
"if someone thinks they can
carry on. 1 suppose that's up
to the membership to
decide..."
Family support
group established
A Family Support Group
has been established in the
area for those who support a
person with mental illness.
Sponsored by the Canadian
Mental Health Association
Perth County branch the first
meeting is being held April 2
at 7 p.m. at the Bethel Bible
Church in Egmondville.
Spokesperson. Patti
Collivcr says nicntal illness
does not only effect those
who have a diagnosis. 1t also
impacts on those who offer
support to the individual. The
support person is often Ictt
feeling confused when they
find no answers to their ques-
tions.

A fight to the bitter end
Please call or write our
local representative, Ahhy
Armstrong and make her
aware of our viable school
and opinions.
Even though the number of
students making up Seaforth
District High School is not
what many consider an ade-
quate amount, we have still
produced a prominent Senior
Girls Volleyball team. Full of
ambitious, outgoing girls
with the competitive edge
needed to make tit to
WOSSA in St.. Mary's
March 7. The girls played
well and had a lot of fun the
entire season but between
unfortunate injuries and good
competition, they came up
short by not qualifying for
OFSSA.
Good luck to Cheryl
Thompson and Laura
Strangway who will he fur-
thering their adventures at
University and college next
year.

As many have heard. the
fight to keep Scatorth District
High School open is going to
he a fight to the hitter end.
One may not have realized
the seriousness of this issue.
but the talks have been going
on for quite some time
now.But had you attended the
Avon/Maitland Board meet-
ing on Tuesday, March 10,
you would know the hoard
means business. •
The hoard, has yet again.
put the final decision on hold
until March 31. as to whether
the school will be closed and
what will happen to the
approximately 340 students
presently attending the
school. Some people sec the
delay as a means of trying to
keep everyone happy. delay-
ing the closure of our promi-
nent school. masking the real
problem at hand. trying to
keep the school open. But
we. the student body (and we
hope the entire town of
Seaforth) see this as an
opportunity to fight for the
foundation of our communi-
ty, the high school.
One must realize the
tremendous impact the
school has on our communi-
ty. Think of all the businesses
and money our community
will he losing if the students
are forced to leave. Our com-
munity, as a whole, would
not be standing if it were not
for the graduates of the
school. Many of our local
business owners. managers
and employees are all gradu-
ates of the school. not to
mention the numerous alum-
ni our school has produced.
We as a community have to
protest this action being
taken against the school and
show the hoard and its mem-
hers we arc not leaving. or at
least not quietly. The students
have already planned various
approaches to conquering the
closure in the short time we
arc faced with, but we need
your help.
