Entire squad chips in as senior Bears bounce St. Marys
Scan Ludwig got his usual
bundle of points, 42 to be
exact. and Bruce Griffin
chipped in a steady 13.
But those two players
weren't the key.
The key to to the Seaforth
District High School senior
Golden Bears basketball team
beating St. Marys last Friday
afternoon. according to coach
Paul Menary• was for the rest
of the squad to score more
than 20 points.
They got 22.
And the Golden Bears won
a squcakcr. 77-72.
It was the WOSSA qualifier
at SDHS so the local hoop-
sters advance to this week-
end's WOSSA "A" tourna-
ment.
The Bears led frorn start to
finish. 20-13 at the quarter,
40-34 at the half and 61-54 at
three-quarter time.
Scott Henderson and Ian
McKichan both popped a
half-dozen points for the
Bears. Brent Rihey and Barry
Medd added four points each
and Brett Moffett scored a
pair.
The senior Golden Bears
lost more than they won dur-
ing the Huron Conference
regular season.
Ludwig has developed into
a fine outside shooter and is
averaging about 40 points a
game. Griffin is no slouch
either, and looks a lot more
confident on the court than he
did last season, with a far
deadlier eye too.
The team Tacks a big centre
like most teams in the confer-
ence have, Menary says.
But McKichan is coming
along at the position. The
coach calls him the most
improved on his roster.
Reagan Price and Trevor
ward were also up from the
juniors for the qualifier, giv-
ing Menary the luxury of
some depth on the bench, in
his sixth year as coach.
TOUGH "D" - The senior Golden Bears are on defence in this photograph. In the darker
jerseys, they are, from left to right: Barry Medd, Scott Henderson, Bruce Griffin, Ian
McKichan and Sean Ludwig.

Morenz Division semi-final.
That means the Irish have
to beat them three -straight
now, or they are toast, and
Seaforth goes on.
Who would have thunked it
two weeks ago, at the end of
this regular schedule?
The Cents are defending
Moren7 champs, but finished
fourth this campaign, 21
points to the rear of the first -
place Irish.
If there has been a defining
moment in this playoff it was
last Wednesday night at
Lucan in game three.
The series was tied 1-1, and
the two teams were knotted at
6 -all, with about seven sec-
onds to go in 10 -minute over-
time and the faceoff in
Seaforth's end.
OUCH, Ouch, ouch...
Neither team won the draw
clean, but Seaforth's danger-
ous MVP sniper Steve
McInally somehow got a
hold of the puck and tripped
into the Lucan end.
He let fly a shot and scored
cleanly with one tick left on
