the house of Mr. A Elcoat in Tuckersmith'Townshipwhere he
married,Elcoatt's daughter, lane.
The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Mr. Cleworth, a minister
of the Georgian Bay Maria
lane wore a rutt-colored satin, two-piece dress with covered
buttons. Hoops under the skirt and a bustle at the back were
also part of the bridal costume.
Her wedding attire remains in good condition, now in the
possession of her grand-daughter,Mrs. Alvin' Betties of
Goderich Ontario.

Some
wedding traditions
go back to ancient times;
others are fairly recent.
Here is a selection of wedding
history, superstition and
tradition.
Wedding terms
The term "bridal" originates
from bride -ale, a special batch
of ale brewed by the family on
the wedding day to defray the
costs of the marriage and to
add to the celebration. The
term was soon used to refer to
the actual celebration.
The bridegroom was once
referred to as a brideknight,
originating from his role as
one of the ushers of the bride
to the church.
The honeymoon, known to
the Anglo Saxons as the first
sweet month of matrimony,
was named from a tradition of
drinking mead or honey wine
for the first 30 days after the
wedding.
Time and day
In Scotland, the most
popular day for a wedding
was December 31. The Scots
reckoned that the whole
world would be celebrating
with them and that by the
following morning, they
would have been happily
married for a year.
Customary months for
weddings varied with cultures.
There was often good
reasoning behind preferences.
For example, while an
Egyptian sun -worshipper
would probably seek a
wedding day nearest to the
summer solstice, a German
farmer would more likely
consider a winter wedding
while his workload was light.
In the 17th century, the
Church of England expressed
a dislike for morning weddings,
its concern being the ragged
