Kimberly Hoffman LaPorte, who married Todd LaPorte on Sept. 28, 1996, said she began looking for less expensive decorating options immediately after their engagement, a full year before the wedding date. She wanted to foot much of the wedding expenses rather than rely on her parents. "I always wanted to do all I can. I didn't want my parents to pay. So I went into it wanting to pay for everything," said Hoffman LaPorte. Her parents did finance some expenses in the end, but the Dashwood -area woman did succeed in her cost-saving goals. And what's best about her thriftiness is she's able to lend these bulk -purchase items to friends who haven't yet tied the knot so they may save money themselves. Hoffman LaPorte began by choosing the main color, cranberry, that would dress the wedding party and decorate the hall.
