I had my head x-rayed
(seriously) to see if my skull
was fractured - but luckily, it
was only my brain that got
rattled.
When I returned to work,
people who approached me
from the right side said "Oh,
you don't look that bad," until
they got to the left side and then
it was "Oh" or "Ew" - and
"have you tried vitamin E?
Have you tried aloe?"
And I did. And both worked.
Seriously. The wounds healed.
The scabs disappeared. And the
deepest scrape beside my eye
cleared up the day before my
wedding.

Make-up Helps
On the advice (insistence) of
my then finance Kathleen, I still
had to make an appointment at
a makeup place in a London
mall (I was married in London)
and ask them for something to
cover up the pinkness of the
freshly healed wound by my
eye. The scrape beside my
mouth wasn't even noticeable
then. These friendly, helpful
cosmetician found me a
makeup powder that matched
s
my skin colour and all 1 did was
a few touch-ups around my eye
(in the washroom when there
were absolutely NO other guys
around) before the wedding
and reception. And my wounds
were virtually invisible in the
wedding photos (or my wife
would have killed me).
Thankful for three things
So the three things I am
thankful for from the whole
wipe-out on my face ordeal are:
1) That Kathleen still agreed
ea/Ace
(barely) to marry me.
2) That I was wearing a helmet
(and subsequently am alive or
wasn't injured worse).
3) That those aloe, vitamin E
remedies actually worked
wonders.
(And I forgot one more - thank
God my stag party wasn't the
night before my wedding!)

Whether a bride plans to use
a professional makeup artist
or apply her own makeup on
her wedding day, there are a
few basic points to
remember.
1. Don't try anything new on
the wedding day. Your
makeup products should be
tried well in advance in case
your skin reacts.
2. Dont have a facial just
before the wedding.
3. Don't use colors which
dash with the bridesmaids'
dresses.
4. Avoid applying thick
makeup. Start light and add,
mixing and blending as you
go along. It's wise to practice
applying your colors several
weeks ahead and continue
experimenting to achieve just
the right look.
5. Wax or pluck your
eyebrows. Don't shave them.
6. Wax your upper lip to
remove unwanted hair. Some
women use bleach but if they
have naturally dark skin or a
tan, the hair will appear grey.
7. Moisturize any dry
patches several days before
the wedding and keep your
skin moist.
8. Use moisturizer before
applying makeup. This will
allow the makeup to last
•
longer.
9. On the wedding day,
prepare a compact with your:
basic makeup essentials —
powder, blush, lipstick — for
quick touchups.
10. Cover shiny spots around
the T zone (that area just
above the eyes and down the
bridge of the nose).
11. If you're using a . .
professional makeup artist,
arrange for a trial run and
make sure she knows what
color gowns your
bridesmaids are wearing.
12. Probably most important:
Use waterproof mascara. It
could be an emotional day.
