many different '
variations, the premise
of the nightmare is always the
same.
There I am, at my wedding,
only something is terribly
wrong.
One time, I had forgotten to
pick up,my wedding dress
and was forced to get married
in a pair of Mickey Mouse
boxer shorts. In another one,
my fiance mixed up the dates
and failed to make an
appearance at the altar.
Following each dream, I
wake up in a cold sweat and
wonder how something that
started so simply could have
-become so complex.
And trust nie, it did start
simply. Trevor proposed, I
accepted, and we cracked
open a bottle of champagne.
There were a lot of smiles
and words of encouragement,
while family, friends and
relatives patted us kids on the
back.
' That was early May. ' ' '
By late summer, I was
beginning to understand why
tacky little wedding chapels
in Vegas did such a brisk
business.
I guess I never realized there
,-woulcd be so much work, and
cost, involved in something as
simple as a wedding.
I mean, it is one day of your
life, that lasts just as long as
every other day of your life.
Right?'
I can even remember in the
beginning, flipping through
endless bridal magazines,

laughing at the projected
budgets couples gave
themselves.
' Eight thousand dollars for a
wedding? COME ON! 1 was
sure that with a little
creativity, Trey and 1 could
have the wedding of our
dreams for a fraction of that...
Boy, did I have a lot to learn.
For example, early in my
search for a wedding dress,
stumbled across the gown of ,
my dreams.
It had no frills, pearls, lace
or bows, yet carried the
simple rotnantic elegance,I
had always fantasized about.
However, I was soon to
discover that the dress 1 was
in love with was going to take
me the newt zillion or so years
to pay off.
It was then, and only then,
that I truly learned the

meaning of compromise.
As it turns out, I found
another dress by the same
designer that was similar,
only much more affordable.
Now, it isn't quite the fairy
tale gown I had it mind, but
it's close enough.
After the dress thing, l guess
my next big enlightenment
was how quickly the little
things add up.
I still have flashbacks to a
day in the fall when rpy
mother and a wedding
consultant decided that it was
the time to pick out
invitations. Before I knew it,
they had picked out not only
cards, but cake boxes, napkins
and bookmarks.
"Mother," I said, in my calm
and rational voice. "We are
holding a wedding, not a
grand opening for a Trish and
'lrev'novelty store."
Anyway, I was somehow
