along with Mayor Scott.
Scaforth's high school is
the smallest in Huron County
and the Avon -Maitland hoard
has suggested its declining
enrollment may soon rcach
non-functional levels, in the
context of a study two years
ago which identified an over:
capacity of about 4,300 in
Huron schools.
In the next- two years,
Grades 12 and OAC come on
line at St. Anne's Catholic
High School at Clinton,
which is expected to further
amplify SDHS's enrollment
predicament.
There has been a high
school in Seaforth for 120
years, since 1878. There were
roughly 425 students at
SDHS in • the mid- 1970s and
more than 400 enrolled there
in the late 1980s. At the start
of last September the local
high school had 340 students.
Before the most recent
spectre of possible closure
became an issue. the school
board projected enrollment at
SDHS could decline to about
275 in two years.
