Cents earn tie with four quickies
The Centenaires erupted for
four goals in about six min-
utes late in the third period at
the Seaforth and District
Community Centres Friday
night to earn a 5-5 tie with
the Belmont Bombers, and
run their unbeaten streak on
home ice to seven games.
At Lucan last Wednesday
they weren't so lucky, falling
behind early to eventually
drop a 9-3 decision to the
Moroni Division leading
Lucan Irish 6, the team it
looks very much like they
will meet in the first round of
the Ontario • Hockey
Association Junior "D"evel-
opment League playoffs in a
couple of weeks.
Belmont led 5-1 with 8:43
to go in the game Friday.
Then Shawn Walsh complet-
ed a natural hat trick with
two goals to go with the one
he netted in the opening peri-
od, and Scott Van Dooren
then Tim Eifcrt scored with
2:24 to go and even it up.
The score stayed dead-
locked for the rest of regula-
tion. and through five min-
utes of overtime.
Chuck Robertson earned
the win in net.
The Centenaires haven't
lost at home since Dec. 5,
when Lucan (aced them 9-2.
Manager Dave Parsons says
it was a case of "no legs"
after a l0 -day layoff for the
local juniors at Lucan
Wednesday.
The Cents trailed 4-0 after
the first period, in which they
were out -shot 16-11, then 5-
3 after the second.
Mark Van Dooren, Aaron
Parsons and Pat Culligan
were the only Centenaires to
light the lamp, although the
Cents hit two posts, a cross-
bar and there was another
disputed goal.
MCINALLY ON TOP
I{ looks very much like the
other hest -of -seven semi-
final will pit Mitchell against
Exeter.
The Cents have three games
left in their regular season.
They host cellar -dwelling
North Middlesex this Friday
night at 8:30, then travel to
Thamesford Sunday night at
8:30.
The following Sunday they
finish up at Belmont, in a
7:30 start.
In other JDL news. veteran
forward Steve Mclnally has
surged to the top in the
Morenz Division scoring
race, according to the most
recent statistics released
Monday night.
Steve, who won the Morenz
scoring title two seasons ago,
now has 28 goals and 26
assists for 54 points in 32
games, two more points than
current runner-up Mark
Mahon from Staffa, who
plays for the Mitchell Hawks.
Scott Van Dooren of the
Seaforth juniors is now sev-
enth in the Morenz's "top
twelve" with 38 points (13 G/
25 A, followed by Scott
Henderson in eighth with 35
points (19 G/ 16 A).
