SEAFORTH'S NORTH AMERICAN SILVER STICK BANTAM "C" CHAMPS - The Seaforth bantams beat Watford in
overtime a couple of week's ago to claim this season's North American Silver Stick championship. They also beat
Watford in overtime a week previous in the regional qualifier. You would never know it, but in this photograph taken at
the Seaforth arena on the weekend, they are posed on the ice resurfacer. They are, front row from left: Curtis Murray,
Derek Nesbitt, David Ludwig, Joey Nesbitt. Standing: Brian MacDonald (manager/assistant coach), Matt Flanagan,
Jeremy Holmes, Joey Tunney, Dan O'Reilly, Jason MacDonald, Dean Wood, Daniel Nash. Sitting: Chris Siemon, Derek
Van Drunen, Ryan Willis, Jason Anstett, Josh Holland, Paul McLlwain (coach). Very top: Matt Smale, Tim McClure,
Steve Camochan. Absent when the photo was taken were assistant coach Brent van den Akker, who was at a senior all-
star game in Goderich, and Curtis Wilson, who is injured.
It takes strange call, triple OT to sink
It took triple overtime for
Penetang to bounce
Seaforth's atom 1 hockey
team from the North
American Silver Stick"B"
division semi-finals early
Sunday morning at
Clearwater.
Seaforth lost 3-2.
But the local team of nine
to 12 -year-olds gave it their
best shot.
Seaforth entered the game
undefeated in the big annual
tournament centered around
Sarnia, with three wins, and
led 2-1 with the clock ticking
down. But the referee called
a penalty on the locals with
1:11 to play andgnetang
ended up equalizing on the
powerplay with a scant 49.5
seconds left on the clock to
sent it into OT.
It was Seaforth's only
penalty of the game.
Penetang took a couple ear-
lier.
To add insult to injury,
Seaforth had a goal called
back earlier in the tilt, that
those behind the Penetang net
would swear on a stack of
Bibles was in.
There were no goal judgds.
And the goal that tied it
was a flukey. The puck was
shot from the face-off circle,
With playoffs beginning
this week, the season is just
getting into full swing for the
Seaforth & District Minor
Hockey Association. There
are about 261 players regis-
tered on 22 teams, of both
genders, for all skill levels -
10 house league and a dozen
rep. The atoms, peewees, ban
tams and midgets all begin
their best -of -five playoffs with
Durham this week or next.
Western Ontario Athletic
Association playoffs begin at
the start of March.
It is great entertainment.

chest --high. It hit a player on
the shoulder, then a stick and
somehow found the top cor-
ner behind Seaforth goal -
tender Matt Dalton.
`TRICKLED IN'
The edge -of -your -seat
thrills for fans that made it to
the 7 a.m. semi were far
from over.
The teams played five play-
ers aside for the first five -
minutes of extra time.
Seaforth had numerous
chances but couldn't buy a
goal.
So they played four players
aside for the second overtime
period.
Again, nothing was decid-
ed.
So they went down to three
players aside for a third over-
time.
The drama ended with 2:47
to go.
Penetang shot the puck at
the net and charged the
crease. The puck went in off
one of their player's legs as
he crashed into a crushed
Dalton.
COACH MISSES IT
"We held the majority of
play. The winning goal trick-
led over the line, just "
said Seaforth's Gerry
McLaughlin, who helped out
on the bench in the absence
of regular head coach Pete
Chessell of Cromarty.
Unfortunately, he couldn't
be there. Chessell is a fore-
man for Ontario Hydro and
has been in eastern Ontario
for the past two weeks help-
ing get power restored to that
part of this country after the
recent devastating ice storm.
Tears flowed in his team's
