She had loaned them to National Defense Headquarters in Ottawa in 1971 for "safe- keeping." JULY 9 ' Art Bolton of Dublin wins the Robertson Associate Award, the highest honor awarded by thc Canadian Seed Growers' Association. *** Frances Teatero, of Egmondvillc, director of Student Volunteers of Ontario, attended the Canadian Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries con- vention in Halifax. Thomas Allison of Woodslcc, Ont. was the big winner of a tractor in the Scaforth Agricultural Society's tractor elimination draw. *** Dr. Rohcrt Shepherd of Scaforth and his four children escaped serious injury when their van was in collision with a car driven by Rohcrt Tordiff of London. JULY 16 Fourteen trees were knocked down at Scaforth Lions Park and the roof at First Presbyterian Church was struck hy lightning dur- ing a severe thunderstorm. Mike Watt. 21. of Egmondvillc signed a three year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. *** Developer Dan McTeague announced he is ready to pro- ceed with the development of land north of the community centres. AUGUST 13 McGavin Farm Equipment. Walton. was broken into on two separate occasions and thousands of dollars in mechanics' tools stolen. *** Fathcr Dino Salvador is the new pastor of three Catholic churches in Scaforth, Clinton and Blyth. *** Four local Scouts, Malindima Sampa, Chris Lowe, Ashley Denhaan and Trevor Ward and their leader Harry Denhann travelled to Thunder Bay to take take part in the Canadian Jamboree for Scouts Canada. *** New playground equipment was defaced with graffiti at Seaforth Public School. The equipment worth approxi- mately $19,000 was pur- chased through fundraising by the Seaforth Public School Advisory Council. *** Seaforth Lions Pool was the scene of the Inter County Swimming Association's swim meet which attracted many local children. AUGUST 20 Presley, a one-year old Labrador and Husky cross was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Harpurhey. *** Seventy-five acres of farm- land in Tuckersmith Township, owned by Jim and Brenda McIntosh has been chosen as the site of the 1997 Huron County Plowing Match. * * * The Canadian National Motocross Championships, held at Chris Lee's, in Walton drew large crowds. *** Fred Harburn. who was inducted into the National Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame in July, died at the age of 86. SEPTEMBER 3 After missing for almost five days a Seaforth man, Garry Young, 44, was located by Huron County OPP, its canine unit and a helicopter. *** Mary Moffatt, longtime Huron County teacher is awarded a lifetime member- ship from the Women Teachers' Association of Ontario. She retired after teaching for 39 years. *** After meeting for more than a year Seaforth's history committee was one step clos- er to its goal of establishing a museum in town.
