All results are welcome in
SCOREBOARD. They should be
legible and submitted by noon
Monday so they can be typeset
in time for publication. Who?
Where? When? What and how?
That's what we want to know.
Our newspaper likes it relatively
recent, too. Take particular care
with proper names, since
nobody likes to see their names
spelt wrong in,the paper. Space
depends on the amount of
advertising sold. We will design
SCOREBOARD report sheets
for your particular sport, if need
be, then make them available at
the arena, The Expositor office
or wherever.

Tough times
for teams
without gym
at high school
The senior boys basketball
coach at Seaforth District
High School never wonders
whether its all worth it.
Last year his team didn't
have a lot of depth. When it
got into foul trouble in the
late going, for instance,
coach Paul Menary some-
times didn't have enough
players left on the bench to
put a full compliment hoop-
sters on the court.
This year around he's got
nine bodies, but pre -season
practices and preparation
have been a problem because
the team couldn't use the
gym at the local high school
where a wall was being
repaired.
The team's has already
played in a couple of .tourna-
ments, and its Huron
Conference season begins
this week in Goderich. They
don't play on home court
until January.
The squad was practising at
the community centres, until
the local high school's gym
was safe again last week.
The floor at the community
centres is really set up for
dancing and is too slippery
for intense basketball work-
outs," Menary says. And the
hoards just don't have the
same feel and touch as in the
Golden Bears' own cave.
"I couldn't work them
hard," Menary says,
Nevertheless, being forced
into situations that make it
difficult to compete, let alone
win, doesn't faze Menary,
who is a part-time education-
al assistant at the school and
has been coaching basketball
there for six years.
Both he and his brother
were well-known h -hall play-
ers when they went there.
"If it wasn't for sports the
morale of the school and stu-
dents would just plummet."
he says.
"It's the reason a lot of kids
arc there. Many of them learn
a lot from sport.
"There is no such thing as a
dumb jock."
The work on the school
gym was supposed to have
