Internet helps avert
Wingham overdose
A pair of provincial police
officers credit a man on the
internet in the United States
for their intervention in a
drug overdose in Wingham
in the early hours of the
morning Nov. 18.
"Consts. Ward and
Kaufmann were at the
Wingham OPP detachment
when they received a call
from a New York State man
... (who) advised he was on
the internet communicating
with a Wingham resident
who stated she had taken an
overdose of pills," a press
release from the Huron
detachment notes.
"The man provided the
officers with a phone num-
ber which they traced
through a Bell Canada oper-
ator to a residence in
Wingham."
Staff Sgt. Brian Baldwin
said the officers "responded
to the residence and located
the victim" and both of
them, along with the
American man, are to be
commended.
