On Nov. 1 all our residents had baking club. We made baked apples. Myrtle Read washed all the apples and everyone filled their own apple with brown sugar and cinnamon. Isabel Murray thought they were "finger licking good". We have been busy baking cookies, squares and other baked goods for our bake sale and tea on Dec. 12 from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come. Proceeds go to the res- idents fund. Donations of baked goods are welcome. Our Pajama Party on Nov. 5 was a big success. Eighteen residents dressed in house- coats and pajamas. We Played many games and had many "winners". From the funniest slippers, which was Myrtle Read, to the most col- orful pajamas, which was Agnes McClinchey. We had a lot of laughs. After an evening of games, we had tasty squares made by our dietary staff. 1t was a great evening. Thank you to every- one who participated. We are putting a man-sized nativity scene outside in our patio area. We will he setting it up by Dec. 1. If anyone would like to view it, please feel free. Anna Nicholson is volun- teering at the Retirement Home. She attends the St. Michael's High School in Stratford. We hope you enjoy your new home. We would also like to wel- come our new staff members, Marianne Van Esbroeck and Lisa Dupee who are going to he working as RPNs. Welcome. On Nov. 20 the Audibly Awesome Barbershop Quartet played some music for our pub night. Our resi- dents enjoyed beer, wine and punch, along with munchies, in a pub -like atmosphere. Norman and his wife Ethel Turrall, really enjoyed them- selves. Cold beer and chips to munch on, what a treat. It was a great evening. Thank you to the barbershop quartet for the lovely entertainment. We look forward to having you come again. On Christmas morning, the residents will be opening gifts from under the tree. We ask that family members bring in one gift for their family members to open, thank you. Happy birthday to Anna Gibson on Dec 2, George Wright on Dec. 8 and Henrietta Brown on Dec. 31. The staff at the Retirement Home would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and hest wishes this holiday season. Trees trimmed and stockings hung The tree is trimmed. the Maplewood stockings hung and the Christmas tree decorating party put everyone atis Manor Maplewood in the Christmas spirit and ready for the festiv- ities. Many residents enjoyed taking, part in the'Santa Claus parade while others chose to watch. What a great rarade. Christmas dinner for Maplewood was held at Northside United Church. After the meal residents and their guests were entertained by the Huron Strings. Remembrance I)ay is a very special day for residents and greatly appreciated the service giscn by memhers of the Seaforth Legion. Church services for the month of November were held with Rev. Hiscux. Pastor Lucas and Elly Van Bergen. The Notes of Yesteryear were on hand fora great afternoon of music. 1 he dance floor was a popular spot. Bill Gipson visited Maplewood and entertained residents with a number of Christmas selections on the piano. We also enjoyed a sing -a -long led by Marion Rose. Residents crossed the street to attend the luncheon at Northside United Church. The meal was delicious. Some great shots were made during the crokinolc match with Charlie and Peggy Perkins and Barhara Scott. Euchre and bingo are also popular activities. Jackpot winners for the month were Janet Cluff, Minna Scott and Marilyn Hodgert. Betty Harris, Barbara Scott and ladies of the craft class have everything wrapped up for the Christmas Bazaar to he held Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hope to sec you there. Importance of prayer Queensway Bingo with the Bethe Reform Women started the week at Queensway. Residents have appreciated their assistance and prizes at Rev. Williamson of Bayfield Community Church led worship service Tuesday afternoon with "The Importance of Prayer" as his topic. Mrs. Williamson was volunteer pianist. Winnie Hutton, Pastoral Care volunteer provided per- sonal visitation Wednesday afternoon, followed by the Bible study using the guide Senior Saints, growing older in God's family. November birthday greet- ings to Evelyn Fletcher, Helen Ferrigno, Frances Upshall, Vera Parker, Judy Samhridge, and Arthur Tarling. Everyone helped them celebrate Thursday afternoon at our party with Gladys Van Egmond and the Merry Makers. Gladys was our first entertainer to use our new piano and she pro- nounced it excellent. We appreciate those family mem- hers who joined us to.cele- brate the birthdays. The senior diners, Thursday evening joined residents for a card pai;y and games night in the Retirement Horne lounge. Edna Stewart won a Christmas cactus for being the Scrabble champion. Shirley Stone was tops at "31" and received a cherub ornament for her efforts. Isobel Rogerson along with Marg Cole won a Christmas cactus and potpourri in the draw held for euchre winner's. Resident Council and Operations Group held their meeting on Friday., Everyone is looking forward to the numerous special groups vis- iting us to entertain in December, also the family Christmas dinner is hcing held December 14. Hostesses were Beatrice Stoll. Jean Pinder and Mary Finlayson. Six tables of cards were in play and winners were: ladies high score, Gertie Driscoll; ladies lone hands, Grace Broadfoot; ladies consolation, Viola Lawson; men's high score, Robt. McMillan; men's lone hands, Tob Murray; men's consolation, Frank Hulley. The next euchre will be at the Legion on Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. Hostesses are Grace Broadfoot, Beatrice Stoll and Jean Lunn. Bring a friend and a Christmas treat with your sandwich. We missed Ida Diehl last month and sorry to report she is in hospital suf- fering a fracture from a fall. We wish her a speedy recov- ery. Murray's card game Dublin by Dorothy Dillon 345-2883 Those six Murray brother: had another card game al brother Ronald's farm home. One brother (we won't say who) we'll just say the one with the new Cadillac, forgot about the game. Maybe those Cadillacs are not as fast as they claim to be. It only took him 135 seconds to get to Ronald's once he was reminded of the games. We had a real mild game with Joe, Ronald and Arthur on top, with Jerry, Cyril and Jerome just a little behind. Happy 18th birthday to Mary Jayne Snowdon of Dublin. Dublin and area has been saddened by two recent deaths. Heartfeltsympathy of the community is extended to the family of Mary Etuc and to the family of Thomas Nigro.
