He gave the sermon for the 130th anniversary at 1st Presbyterian Church in Seaforth two weeks ago. and also spoke on the troubles in his homeland at St. Andrew's Church in Clinton that weekend. God's answers through politics, not miracles CONTLNCED from Page 1. IN SEAFORTH AREA He gave the sermon at the service marking the 130th anniversary of I st Presbyterian Church in Seaforth the day after his talk at Clinton. Rev. Njoya, once named one of the foremost theologians in the world. recently began a one-year term as scholar in residence at the University of Toronto. He is an interesting man. "I have been fighting for the last 20 years," he said while speaking to reporters before his talk at St. Andrew's. "Canada has a lot of moral currency." He is an energetic talker. It was hard to get a question in edgewise. Rev. Njoya thinks we OMAFRA workshop on income tax soon The Clinton office of Ontario's Ministry of Agriculture. What we wouldn't tolerate here, he says, we should not tolerate there. "Canada is innocent." he says, because we have never been an imperialist power. "I can not think people can not cope," he says. "I can not imagine a human heing not heing able to survive. There must be something wrong." `BEYOND BLAMING' He defines democracy as the people using their time and energy to give maximum satisfaction at minimum waste. delegating only a por- tion of this responsibility to government. He says in Canada. 90 per cent of this governance is left to the people and their insti- tutions. but in Kenya it is the other way around. It is degrading. The state is all -intrusive there. for instance at all gath- erings of more than eight people. such as even wed- dings. which are not allowed without a licence in Kenya under the government of President Daniel arap Moi and the ruling Kenyan African National Union. which also controls puhlic radio and television. "The reform movement of today is the consequence of going beyond blaming only the Kenyatta-Moi regime for official corruption. to focussing on the lack of sys- tem of accountability and creating such a system." he says. "The Church has the neces- sary energy and the long- term persistence for influenc- ing change from the corrupt and inhumane political sys- tem toward a just and humane • one.
