NSJuU ar IS, 1557 Seaforth citizenship awards presented BY DAVID SCOTT Expositor Editor Seaforth Mayor Irwin Johnston presented three citi- zenship awards for five local people Saturday night at the Seaforth Business Improvement Association's (BIA) annual Christmas Pty. Civk Service Olave Little received the "Civic Service" award from the Town of Seaforth and the recreation committee. Olave is a charter member of the Seaforth Legion Auxiliary and has been involved with the auxiliary for 45 years. During that time she has been president, sergeant -at -arms for the colour party and has volun- teered to do kitchen duties when the auxiliary caters for. functions at the Legion. She is a current member of the Seaforth Seniors Games Committee and the Seaforth "Happy Citizens club." She has spent nine years with the Happy Citizens in which she was president for two. Olave has been in charge of orga- nizing bus trips for this group and she continues doing this job today, said Mayor Johnston. Humanitarian Service Jean and Wilfred Drager are the recipients of the "Humanitarian Service" award this year from the town. They are long-time resi- dents of Seaforth and are the caretakers at First Presbyterian Church and St. Thomas Anglican Church. Jean says they like to help out whenever they can. Nominator Thelma Pryce summed it up by saying: "They are my neighbours, and the very best you could ever have." "Jean and Wilfred, thanks for helping your neighbours and other friends in their time of need. Because of people like you, Seaforth is a better place to live," said the mayor. Jean commented that "Seaforth is a great place to live." Service to Sports John and Barb Watt are the recipients of the "Service to Sports" award. Barb was involved with the Seaforth Centenaires as a past executive member for 11 years, she has volunteered eight years on the Seaforth Minor Hockey executive, in which she was treasurer, sec- retary, ice captain and refer- ee -in -chief. Barb was also manager of the novice hock- ey team from 1985 to 1987, and the atom team from 1987 to 1990. She served on the Seaforth and District Ringette Association executive for five years and was president for one of those years. John has coached minor hockey for many years lead- ing his teams to league cham- pions and all Ontario champs in 1987-88. He coached the novice team from 1985 to 1987, the atom team 1987- 88, the midget team 1989-90. John also assisted with the Seaforth Centenaires from 1989 to 1991 and served as director on the junior team for five years. "Both John and Barb have done the tour of duty through minor hockey and ringette as their children grew up. They have been coaches, man- agers, executive members, and willing to help out when- ever needed," said Mayor Johnston. The award was accepted by arena manager Graham Nesbitt because the Watts were attending an Oilers game in Ottawa to see their son Mike play for Edmonton.
