beds for their neighbours,"
said Mayor Johnston.
Jean says they like to help
out whenever they can.
Nominator Thelma Pryce
summed it up by saying:
"They are my neighbours,
and the very best you could
ever have."
"Jean and Wilfred, thanks
for helping your neighbours
and other friends in their time
of need. Because of people
like you, Seaforth is a better
place to live," said the mayor.
Jean commented that
"Seaforth is a great place to
live."
Service to Sports
John and Barb Watt are the
recipients of the "Service to
Sports" award.
Barb was involved with the
Seaforth Centenaires as a
past executive member for 11
years, she has volunteered
eight years on the Seaforth

which she was treasurer, sec-
retary, ice captain and refer-

manager of the novice hock-

and the atom team from 1987
to 1990. She served on the
Seaforth and District Ringette
Association executive for

for five years.
"Both John and Barb have
done the tour of duty through
minor hockey and ringette as
their children grew up. They
have been coaches, man-
agers, executive members,
and willing to help out when-
ever needed," said Mayor
Johnston.
The award was accepted by
arena manager Graham
Nesbitt because the Watts
were attending an Oilers
game in Ottawa to see their
son Mike play for Edmonton.
(He scored the winning goal,
his first in the NHL, inu1-0
game).

ing, but would not include
any extra curricular activities.
"Such constraints should
not be applied in any way to
affect co -instructional (co -
curricular) activities and pro-
grams," he said.
In his report, Carroll added
that for "legal and financial
reasons", the board could not
consider any option which
would have extended the
teaching work year beyond

He also stated that it was
necessary for the board to
address the question of how
much time was needed for
each method to regain the
time lost to students.
"It is noteworthy that the
EducationRelations
Commission does not have
any history of intervening to
adjust school year calendars
for work interruptions of this
short duration," Carroll con-
tinued. "In 1978, the Huron
County Board of that day
made no changes to sec-
ondary school schedules fol-
lowing a 31 -day strike."
