"With the coming of 44

New sled grass drag team
ends successful season
Racing modified snow-
mobiles in the middle of
the summer has paid off
handsomely for a local
team, as they copped many
awards in the ever-increas-
ing sport.
Known as grass drag rac-
ing, on straight tracks 300-
500 ft. long, the Ward's
Farm Equipment sponsored
race team did very well in
a series of races over the
past few months. It was the
first time Ward's had spon-
sored the team, riding
Yamaha sleds, and it was a
successful venture, says
sponsor Bob Ward.
'The guys hada good
year and had a lot of fun at
the same time," he said.
The team—Rob
Beuerman, 25, of Dublin:
Pcrry Lealess, 22, of
Mitchell: Gary Ulch, 21, of
Mitchell and Steve Rose,
40, of RR 5 Mitchell—
travelled to Durham,
Palmet'ston, Seaforth,
Grand Bend, Tiverton and
Thorndalc for competitions
beginning in August and
ending just two weeks ago.
They also competed in
local events outside of
Mitchell at Brad Linton's
and outside of Avonton at
Darren Murray's.
The team competed in a
variety of classes on their
Yamaha 700SRX, 700SX
and 500XT modified sleds,
ranging from first -place
finishes in 500cc classes to
700cc triple -pipe events.
The group also competed
in.the Central Ontario
Snowmobile Drag Racing
Association (COSDRA)
series in Grand Bcnd. win-
ning second in 'C' stock
and third in 'B' stock as
well as a variety of solid
finishes in the COSDRA
series points final in
Thorndalc.
The team put a lot of
hours into modifying the
sleds to race potential. and
it paid off.
The racers would com-
pete four in cach heat. with
the top two advancing to
the next round.
