Program in Rural Ontario).
' London Area Woolen's
Institutes held their recent
83rd annual convention in
'Zorra Community Centre,
Embro, On. with Oxford
North District W.I. hosting.
In her opening remarks
President Gladys Egleton
urged everyone to strive for
safe and healthy communi-
ties.
Future of London chair,
Pauline Lindsay, said this
area will consist of two sub-
divisions.
Resolutions convener
Dolores Shapton presented
three. One resolution dealt
with farm equipment being
difficult to. see around dusk;
another requested installing
strobe lights on all Ontario
school buses to enhance visi-
bility. The final resolution
requested each primary
school bus in Ontario be
equipped with a safety bar,
thus enabling a child to be
more visible to the bus driver.
The resolutions were later
sustained.
Federated Women's
Institute of Ontario president
Margaret Harris brought
greetings and expressed
appreciation for being elected'
to the position. Twenty-two
countries were represented at
the FWIO's 100th convention
in June. Doug Smith and Jack
Matheson were this year's
Erland Lee award recipients.
A book and video entitled
"Indebted to the Past" com-
memorating the recent
anniversary is available.
Nominations for two
provincial board directors
resulted in Mrs. Willa
Johnston elected in one sub-
division and Mrs. Donna
Willows in another. -
Board directors elect nomi-
nated were Mrs. Glenna
Laddell and Mrs. Donna
MacPherson.
During the afternoon
reports were heard from
Children's Hospital of
Western Ontario, Western
Fair Association, public rela-
tions officer, Tweedsmuir
History curator, membership
organizer, Eriand Lee and
Conference '97.
Entertainment was provided
by Dolores Shapton as
"Millie the Moo" and a skit
by South Lobo WI Branch
called "Fashion in Time".

1997-98 resulted in the fol-

Artists invited
to enter work
All regional artists and pho-
tographers are invited to
enter their work in a non-
juried show at the Bainton
Gallery at Blyth from Nov.
23 to Dec. 20.
"Art of any medium is wel-
come but it must be original
and have been executed in
the last two years," the
regional Festival's art gallery
committee notes. "All work
should be ready for exhibi-
tion with the appropriate
hanging materials like hooks
and wire.
"The entry fee is $5 per
piece and no more than two
may be submitted by each
artist."
The Huron County and area
works will be received on
Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9
a.m. until noon and from I to
3 p.m. at the gallery, which is
located in the part of the
building that links the Blyth
hall and box office.
Everybody, including
artists, is invited to attend the
opening of this annual com-
munity art exhibition on the
following evening, Sunday at
8 p.m. You can also take a
gander at the works during
regular Blyth estival busi-
ness hours, Monday to
Friday, 9 Lm. to 5 p.m.
