ALL LIT UP - Members of the Seaforth Community Hospital Auxiliary recently gathered at the hospital to prepare for their
annual Tree of Lights celebration on Sunday, November 23 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with the lighting ceremony at 7. Pictured
here testing out strings of bulbs are, from Zeit: Marjorie Claus, Maxine Marks, Margaret Manan Lee, Marie Kelly and Ron
Drager, who volunteers his time every year for the electrical work for the event. The ceremony this year includes a visit
with Santa tor children of all ages atter a shorter program outside by the blue spruce. Children can bring letters for Santa,
too. Hot mulled cider and homemade cookies will be available for all. A draw will be held with proceeds going towards the
purchase of hospital equipment. People can also light a light in memory of someone or as a gift.
Town forms 'tree committee'
Council adopted a tree -
cutting policy for Seaforth
at last Tuesday night's meet-
ing, on the recommendation
of Works Superintendent
John Forrest who had asked
for some kind of official
guidelines many months
ago.
The town won't cut or
remove any tree from pri-
vate property.
For trees on town property
the policy has two parts.
Those that are diseased or
damaged to the point that
they pose a safety problem to
the general public are to be
trimmed or removed at
Seaforth's expense:
Those that are deemed a
nuisance may be removed
provided a request in writing
is received setting out the
nature of the nuisance, the
request for removal is recom-
mended by a municipal tree
committee and approved by
council. "the person(s)
requesting the removal of the
tree pay all costs of removal
and boulevard restoration and
shall provide an undertaking
to the municipality guaran-
teeing payment," and that the
removal is carried out by the
Works department or contrac-
tor it approves.
Forrest and Couns. John
Ball and Bill Teall were
named to the municipal tree
committee.
