!afore bogittrni!1 g, we
would -both like to,asy that
awaiting this speech was sot
an _easy job. Speaklog .on
behalf of -such a diverse
group of -individuals is vary
difficult.'
We started out as strangers,
people just walking around
trying to find the meaning of
life. We did not and pethapm
could not even imagine that
in these short years, we
would .be this much more
wiser, stronger, and confident
in our own abilities to look
after ourselves. The lessons
we have learned will remain
in our hearts and minds for-
ever. Just like in kindergarten
when we learned the alphabet
our years at SDHS have been
formative ones. We started in
kindergarten by learning each
letter and then compiling
them into words, sentences
and stories.
Welcome to our distin-
guished guests, teachers,
family and friends and mos(
importantly, graduates. These
past years in high school
have been like that - stories,
books, recollections. This is
how we see our SDHS alpha-
bet.
A -ACHIEVEMENT.
Tonight we recognize the
achievements of the graduat-
ing class of 1997.
Congratulations.
B -BE THE BEST YOU
CAN BE. Now that our high
school years are over we real-
ize that our experiences at
SDHS have enabled us to use
our unique talents to begin to
find our place in the world.
C -CHANGE. Most people
resist change and yet it's the
only thing that brings
progress. We have changed
since grade 9. Many have
grown into individuals that
are a far cry from the grubs
we used to be.
D -DEVELOP OUR
SKILLS. We've spent our
high school years meeting the
standards of the staff to refine
our skills. Those skills now
become the building blocks
for new ones.
E-E'N'TH'USIAS'M.
Enthusiasm is like a ripple on
the water. it spreads. Who
can beat that Golden Bear
spirit?
F -FOLLOW OUR
DREAMS. Apprenticeship to
university life, we arc all in
pursuit of our dreams. We
had mentors here at SDHS in
teachers and students who
encouraged us to dream and
set goals.
G -GO. GO. GET 'EM.
GRRRR!
H -HOLD ON TO OLD
FRIENDS. We must under-
stand that friends come and
go but with a precious few
we should hold on. Work
hard to bridge the gaps of
geography and lifestyle. The
older you get, the more you
need the people you knew
when you were young.
1 -I'VE learned that we only
grow when we push our-
selves beyond what .we
already know.
J -JUST DID IT. Finally.
K -KNOW OURSELVES.
We have experienced so
many different things. From
dances and milk chug a lugs
and fundraisers to clubs and
team events. We have learned
where our strengths and
weaknesses lie. This knowl-
edge enables us to make pos-
itive choices.
L -LEARN. We have
learned that if there were no
problems. there would be no
opportunities.
M -MAKE IT HAPPEN. If
we wanted something, we
went for it. We made it a
• reality.
N -NAMES AND NUM-
BERS. At SDHS everyone
knows everybody. In the
"real world" we are all just a
number. The personal atmos-
phere helped give us a sense
of our own identity.
O -•OVERCOMING
•OBSTACLES. All of us here
have overcome great obsta-
cles in our years at SDHS
Vaiediatoriesrs Carly Pretreat .Christi D natrtt
dents of the HuronCounty
Board of Education as it
opens up the world to us.
"Tank you.
Y YOU. 'You .chows ,your
own destiny. You or respon-
sible for your actions. You
are the most important person
therefore...
Z-Z-HRO in on your moat
and go for it!
Thank you w the staff and
support ataff of MIR for
their time, dedication .anti
knowledge .and -to .our,ptar-
ents, .we finally .did it! The
lessons avedhave learned Jaatee

our lives. in summary Jet us

from math with Mr. Kennedy
to English with Mr. Tozer. we
have all succeeded. It was
perhaps a bumpy path but the
road to success is always
under construction.
P -PRACTICE MAKES
PERFECT. We have learned
the art of priorities and
excuses. We have found that
being ill isn't a valid reason
for tardiness but "Mental
Health Days" are accepted.
Q -QUESTION EVERY-
THING. Search for the inner
truth. Things arc not always
as they seem.
R -RESPECT. We have all
learned to respect ourselves
and each other.
S -SMILE!
T -TREASURE. Treasure
your high school experience.
you'll never have another one
like it.
U -UNITE. We arc gradu-
ates of one of the greatest
schools around, therefore we
are united by our special con
neetions to each other. Our
memories of athletic teams,
beach days and grad trip have
brought us together.
V -VALUE. Value today,
because regrets over yester-
day and the fear of tomorrow
are the twin thieves that rob
us of the moment.
W -WE. We have learned to
have fun, to make the most of
our moments together.
X -EXCELLENCE.

mitment shown to all stu-
