Archer celebrates
A Hullett man is celebrat-
ing after winning the unlimit-
ed freestyle class at the
Ontario and Canadian three-
dimensional (3i7) archery
championships this summer.
John VanLoo says he prac-
tises 10 to 15 hours a week
straight shooting at either his
farm or the Silver Creek
Archery Club in Seaforth.
He has been competing in
earnest again for about the
past two years, after giving
up archery when he was
younger.
VanLoo, who has worked at
Epps Manufacturing in
Clinton for the past 24 years,
says he won some fishing
tackle then traded it back in
for some archery equipment
"and went from there."
3-D archery differs from
the field archery you see in
the Olympics because foam
animals are the targets.
He says he is going to com-
pete in the open pro class
next year, and aim for cash
prizes rather than trophies.
