Lawnbowlers active in out-of-town tourneys
The Seaforth Lawn
Bowling Club held its month-
ly potluck supper at the club
house June 24 with Grace
Broadfoot and Olive Papple
as hostesses. Five tables of
cards were in play and two
greens of lawn bowling.
Winners at cards were: high
scores, Edith McMillan and
Boyd Driscoll; Ione hands,
Betty Hulley and Wm. Kelly;
consolation, Gertie Driscoll
and Theo Van Bakel. Next
social is July 22 at 6 p.m.
Hostesses will be Edna and
Neil Bell and Alice Reid.
Local members have been
active in out-of-town tourna-
ments, Last Wednesday Edna
Bell and Catherine Van
Doornik were consolation
winners at Lucknow ladies
pairs, while Jack Muir and
Bob Doig won first at
Clinton men's pairs. Fred
Tilley and Lee Ryan were
high two -game winners and
placed third. Friday night
saw several Seaforth mem-
bers competing in the option-
al singles tournament in
Goderich. Our president, Lee
Ryan, placed third while
Brenda Empey of Clinton
was second and Peter
McFalls of Exeter took first.
The Seaforth club is hosting
a singles here on Friday
evening July 11 at 7 p.m.
'Twenty two entries were in
at date of writing. In ladies
pairs at Clinton last Monday
Olive Papple and Joan
Webster were two game win-
ners while Eileen Adamson
and Jean Lunn won the con-
solation prize. Bowling in
Brussels on last Thursday,
Jack and Marie Muir took
fifth place. They were unable
to bowl the third game due to
rain. In the merchants and
manufacturers tournament in
Mitchell on Saturday, Fred
and Betty Tilley and Diane
March placed second (with
3w + 47 op8). The first place
team was from Woodstock
and St. Marys (3w +48). In
mixed pairs at Exeter on
Sunday Lee Ryan and Carol
Carter were second.
There will be a mixed pairs
or ladies pairs at the Seaforth
greens on Wednesday starting
at 10:30 a.m. Good bowling
to all.

Valedictorian for the gradu-
ates was Kathy Devereaux of
Seaforth.

special lady, Betty Riley, who
celebrated July 7. We love
our euchre parties and good
get-togethers.

enjoyed special events in
honor of "Seniors Month"
during June.
The Northside Junior Choir
put on a wonderful perfor-
mance under the direction of
Audrey McLlwain. Our
Pastoral care luncheon hon-
ored all the area clergy and
volunteers who provide wor-
ship services throughout the
year. Fond farewells were bid
to Father Hardy and Sister
Rita as well as to our
Chaplain Rev. Cheryl nn.
The "Notes of Yesteryear"
provided excellent music for
our June birthday party. Best
wishes to John McCowan,
Annie McNichol, John
Lansink and Chester Sturdy.
Residents were pleased to
entertain Iuron MPP Helen
Johns for An afternoon tea.
She visited residents and
answered any concerns or
questions. Our "Strawberry
Social" was a wonderful
event raising funds for our
local Alzheimer. Society as
well as our activity fund.
The nursery school children
brightened everyone's morn-
ing with their monthly visit
to sing and dance for us. We
look forward,to their return in
September. We would like to
thank Mrs. Vanden Akker's
Grade 7 class for all their
assistance during our weekly
rialliblUed on Page 17.

the weekend with Bob and
Rita Core of Seaforth and
Cecilia Ryan of St.
Columban.
Sean and Heather Eckert,
Sam and Mitchell of
Walkerton spent Saturday
night with Cecilia Ryan.
The first ever Dalton
reunion was held in the
Dublin Community Centre
this past weekend. Friday
night was registration and get
acquainted. Saturday started
with mass at 12 o'clock at the
pavilion. Tributes were given
next to Alice, Jim, Jack,
Morris, Minnie, Conn, Albert
and Annie. Annie Bowman is
the only living member of the
family. She is 92 and attend-
ed the whole time.
The afternoon included
games and sports for the
young people and nostalgia
for everyone. Dinner drew a
crowd of 180 people for a
roast pig barbecue. The
evening included home
grown talented entertainment,
and a bronze medal winner in
her class plus an Irish wed-
ding song to a soon to be
bride and groom. It was men-
tioned that most of these
entertainers are ready to turn
professional at any time.
Sunday included visits to
the old homestead, the ceme-
tery and other sites and
homes in the area. The day
concluded with a chicken
barbecue and goodbyes for
everyone. Catering for the
weekend was provided by the
Maloney sisters and their
crew. Guests came from as
far away as Arizona, Texas,
Illinois, Wisconsin, British
Columbia, Manitoba, Saudia
Arabia.
The gathering was a life-
long wish of Brother Joseph
(Albert) to have his family
meet each other.
