CONTINUED from page 1
The weather was perfect for
the occasion. Bannon said
she was whisked to preferred
parking downtown. once she
flashed her official identitica-
tiun at security:
It made her feel like a
queen.
Butmon was in the British
Army for four years, and
only learned about two and -a
half weeks ago she was one
of the few veterans chosen to
stand for the Queen.
The ATS has a reunion
every year and Margaret, has
never missed.
• The first wutnah killed' in
action during World War 11
was'a member of this same
auxiliary territorial service.
The men and women were
mixed in the ATS for the
Battle of Britain, Margaret's
husband_Peter explained. He
is also a veteran of that war.
but was with Canadian
forces.
It was -heavy: anti-aircraft
artillery and the women took
• over from the men if there
was any trouble.
Margaret says s^he knows
-how to handle an ack-ack
gun.
She Saw' -a bit of action in
Scotland, but served most of
her duty until victory was
won with an ATS battalion
on the south coast- of the
United Kingdom. much of it
around Southampton off the
English Channel.
They came to Canada after
the war. the two of them did.
she is a "war bride." The
Bannons have lived in
Seaforth for many years.
Both arc members of
Seaforth Branch 156 of the
Royal Canadian Legion.
A TRUE 'TATER' - Jason Murray gave the Seaforth Reds a 2.0 lead when he pulled this
pitch over the .chainlink in righttield in the fourth inning Wednesday night. He hit another
homer as the second batter up in the first, an inside -the -park shot to the opposite field.
