There were all kinds of activities planned for kids such as limbo. hockey. fishing, bal- loon popping. long jump, face painting. and throw the wet sponge game (students past and present of Walton agreed to risk getting their faces wet and it was rumored that there were a few teachers that saw their chance to get even with their students and threw a few sponges). and a buggy ride. Jim Crocker manned the barbecue and served up some great tasting hotdogs. The popcorn machine was kept busy and well over 200 people enjoyed all the fun. by Patty Banks 887-6156 On Friday The Early Year students and parents. grand- parents and friends held their Teddy Bear Picnic. They played games and -then feast ed on fancy sandwiches, veg- gies and ice cream cupcakes. This past week the kids made canisters for Father's Day which were filled with bark (chocolate edible bark). The Grade 1's finished their story wheels this week. Neil said it was great fun getting together with school friends to tell a few lies and having a chance to brag about their grandchil- dren. The group get together Summer reading program at library The Hensel] Parks Board recently dispersed monies on behalf of the Hay Days '96 Committee. to minor sports groups in Hensall. Each of the following received funds: Hensall Minor Ball. Hensall Minor Hockey. Hensall Gymnastics, Hensall Rollerblade Hockey, Exeter - and District Ringette, .and Hensall Youth Soccer. These donations represent the disso- lution of the Hay Days' funds. At Hensall United Church with Rev. Robert Peebles it was graduation day for the junior congregation. The Hensall Library is hav- ing a summer reading pro- gram for children aged 6 to 11, called "Camp Read -a - Lot". It runs for eight weeks from July 3 until August 21. The cost is $5 per child for reading and fun, plus a dynamic kick-off July 3 at 11 a.m. with storyteller, and author Rob Neeves. On July 27 there will be a memorial and decoration day at Hensall Union Cemetery at 2 p.m. Perth teachers meet The Perth unit of the Superannuated Teachers of Ontario District 9 (STO) held its annual dinner meeting ' June 10 at Mitchell. President Joan Anderson welcomed the 96 atwnding. Introduction of acting presi- dent Harry Nesbitt was given by Dave McClure. Nesbitt gave a short report about the recent Senate, after distribut- ing a lengthy account to us prior t9 the opening. Ross Errington. president of Huron Unit brought greetings. The acting president intro- duced guest speaker ;Barry Foster, who spoke about schools and .the probation officer. The .Perth unit pf;the STO is looking forward to our Huron -Perth Distriet 9 dinner to be held Oet. 23 at-Seaforth Community Centre. every five years and this marked their 40th year. 'Edith and Campbell Wey greeted worshippers at Duff's United Church on Father's Day Sunday, June 15. -This was Anniversary Sunday and the church was wall decorat- ed with fresh flowers.
