Tough but necessary ,its
Transportation Minister Al Pattadini has introduced some
strict sanctions against truck drivers and impaired drivers that
should help make the roads a little safer for Ontario motorists.
. And it's about tune.
The minister introduced measures that will hit drunk drivers.
truckers with unsafe rigs and people who ignore school bus
signals with increased fines and suspensions:
Nov.. drunk drivers who are caught a secund time will lose
their vehicle for 45 days and have to pay the fees while a third
conviction ter drunk driving will mean the loss of a drivers
licence for lite.
Tough measures but ne essary efts•'.
The province continues to prosecute repeat offenders for
drinking and driving and it's tiinc that people gut the message
that it is not acceptable. It may be argued that repeat offenders
will ignore the law and simply drive without a licence any-
way. but tougher sanctions will make many more people think
about the process.
Unfortunately, it has become necessary to get tough with
school bus safety and imposing hefty fines may be the only
sanction left. Fines for people who ignore stopped school
buses will double to $400 and up 'to $2,00() fur a first offense
and as much as $4,W0 for repeat offenders.-
The road safety legislation deals with issues where many
lives have been lost and .unless there are strict; stiff penalties.
people will continue to drink and drive, to drive unsafe vebi-
' cies and ignore school bus safety issltws.
Driving is a privilege and unless people observe the rules the
fines should be. stiff and licences should be lost. - Guderich

Some owners are there for
four to five hours at a time. 1
hear it from our customers

That's when 1 look out and
