4-H REPORT
BY AMANDA RYAN
The fourth meeting- of the
"Hoe Hoe Gang" was held at
the home of Glenda, Mandy
and Leanne Murray. Since it
was a nice evening, we sat on
their deck. Our leaders
Glenda and Martha Murray
had already set up some
herbs for us to look at and to
identify, which we did later
on in the meeting.
The meeting started with
the roll call. Next we moved
on to reading the minutes
which the secretary did for
us. We also filled out a cross-
word on some familiar herbs
in our manuals. All 10 mem-
bers were given large
amounts of herbs and other
plants. We closed the meeting
and had a snack of crackers,
cheese and juice.
P
BIG GUY BACK -
Scott Driscoll, a
Seaforth native,
was spotted in town
last week pushing
his son Ryan about
in a stroller in the
sunshine. Driscoll
worked five games
in the first round of
the recent Stanley
Cup playoffs, and
says things are
going well. Scotty
lives in Guelph now.
He was visiting his
parents for the day
while his wife, who
is a teacher, was at
a conference in
Quebec.
Busy month but residents ready for more outdoors
Hello everyone. The weath-
er is finally starting to feet
like summer is coming. In
May residents and staff of the
Seaforth Manor Retirement
Home didn'i have too many
nice days to take walks out-
side, however, we did man-
age to get out a few times.
On May I we had the
"Junior Cloggers" come in to
entertain. Our residents
always enjoy watching the
talented youth from our com-
munity.
On May 2, once again, our
very own Henrietta Brown
entertained us with her musi-
cal talent.

On May 27 parents, friends,
family and members of the
Seaforth 1 4-H Milk Club,
Seaforth 1 Drama CItjb, and
Clinton Horticultural Club
gathered at the Clinton
OMAFRA office for achieve-
ment night. Crista welcomed
everyone. She also brought to
our attention that the Seaforth
Women's Institute had been
sponsoring us. We thank
them, gratefully. The club
leaders also introduced them-
selves. We opened the meet-
ing with the 4-H pledge.
The horticultural club did a
presentation on spider plants,
cactuses, and chicia pets.
Jillian and Lisa, members of
the milk club, spoke about
cheese, white sauces, recipes,
and osteoporosis. For the
drama presentation, Denise,
Anita and Jillian did a puppet
play. They also told us how
puppets were made. Rob and
Mike did a demonstratio,
using face expressions.
Laura, Lisa and David did an
operetta like play that took
place in a restaurant, called
the Note Nook. Kaitlyn and
Lindsey presented a couple
of mimes.
The plaques that each mem-
ber and leader gets aftcr com-
pleting a club were given out.
Gerda spoke about the oppor-
tunities that 4-11 gave. Some
are: members conference (for
4-11 members who arc
between the ages of 13 and
14, as of January 1) and "Go
for the Gold". We were also
informed about the fundrais-
ers going on for 4-H for
example, the battery blitz. If
you have any lead acid bat.-
(cries
at.teries you can distribute them
to Vincent's Farm Equipment
(Seaforth), McGavin's Farm
Supply (Walton), Townsend
Tire (Londesboro) or many
more places.
The six project awards were
also given out. Members who
received these awards were:
Kaitlyn Cannon, Lindsey
McClure, Melissa De Vries,
David Vanden Hoven and
Mary. Mary is from the
Clinton club.
We wrapped up the night
with cheese and crackers,
cookies and juice.
Seaforth Manor
Retirement Home
May 7 our residents were
invited to the Seaforth
Veterinary Clinic for Animal
Health Week. They saw a
new colt that was born on
May I. Everyone got to hang
onto or pet some of the ani-
mals. It was a real pleasure.
Afterwards they were served
juice and cookies. This was a
real treat.
On May II we had our
Mother's Day tea. The resi-
dents enjoyed fancy sand-
wiches and lovely chocolate
squares along with refresh-
ments. It was a lovely after-
noon.
Barb Shannon. cooked a
delicious brunch for the resi-
dents this month. Her daugh-
ter Lindsey helped serve
fresh bacon, eggs, and toast
which is always a treat.
On May 22 we had a
"Rhubarb Social". Fresh
baked pies cooked by Pat
Reid from our dietary staff.
They were delicious. We
enjoyed treating the commu-
nity to our pies •as well.
Thank you to everyone for
attending our social. I would
like to remind everyone that
on June 17 we are having our
annual "Strawberry Social"
in the retirement home from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 1 sure nope
that everyonecan join us.
This event secs that one half
of the profits go to the local
Alzheimer Society.
