Nominations tor mayor. reaeve•and six councillors (along
with public utility commissioners and representatives to the
two, local boas of edue;ation) for the.inurliclipal electioits to.
be held early this November for Seaforth Council upepud.at
ttic start of April. .
They close un October 10. -
-Nobody has said "1 wilt' yet. This is pot unusual this,o;ary.
The last municipal election in 1994 went over likeitheJeg-
endary lead balloon lox ally.
Almost everybody was acclaimed. There. was .a race for only
one cuuncii seat, and only three candidates. •
And to even get that. nominations were reopened. •
All this is nut necessarily to imply the local politicians we
got. and we've got pow haven't done their job but, politics"
being the art of the possible. in a democracy the,public only
gets the politicians it deserves.
Nobody to vote for in 1994 resulted in•663 of an,eligibk
1,1546 voters in Seaforih casting a ballot. That's about 36,por
cent. a little more than one.person in three.
Administrator lir Crocker says when there is a ft4il slate of
,candidates and a raec for mayor, voter turnout averages from
60 it) 65 per cent municipally in Scaforth.
