St. Patrick's Day, Easter celebrated
The 'month of -March ,pawned
-by quickly as residents wore
-busy with lots„of entertuiners
visiting Maplewood.
We were delighted to have
Frances Melady, Tom
Melady. Jim Delaney and
Lou Rowland in our midst.
Their musk was certainly
enjoyed by all.
The Mcncaet Park enter-
tainers from Goderich also
visited Maplewood. Their
comical skits. singing and
dancing raised the spirits of
everyone. The Hawaiian
dancers were an extra special
treat.
St. Patrick's Day was cele-
brated in fine style. After
games of crokinole. euchre
and shuffleboard, prizes were
given to Helen McLaughlin
and Ed Andrews for wearing
the most green. Marian Rose
treated everyone to some
great Irish tunes during her
visit. The Huron Strings were
also 'on hand for a St.
Patrick's Day celebration.
Their music along with their
costumes, got everyone in the
Irish mood,
A big thank you to every-
one who supported our Easter
craft and bake sale. The day
was a great success.
Church services for the
month were held with Jane
Kuepler, Rev. Vandermey
and Rev. Hiscox. Rev. Cheryl
Ann held a special comma-
nion service for Easter.
HAWAIIAN HONEYS - These bare -bellied (or beer -bel-
lied?) entertainers from the Meneset Recreation Club of
Goderich brought a touch of Hawaii to Maplewood recently.

it was evident that the
Easter bunny had visited our
home. Easter dinner was
enjoyed by residents who
paid particular attention to
the Easter chicks that had
been•placed at their tables by.
the Friendship Circle of the
Presbyterian Church.
Spring fashions were on
display as Snowdon
Emporium allowed everyone
to get. their outfit for Easter.
Residents gathered around
the piano and enjoyed an
afternoon of music with Bill
Gibson. Movie night was
also enjoyed by many with
Ann of Green Gables being
the favorite movie.
Everyone is invited to come
and join the fun with the

Students
learn more
about frogs
Mrs. Scott. who teaches the
Early Years students. discov-
ered this week how knowl-
edgeable about frogs they
are. They have begun a unit
on frogs and they made a list
of all that they knew about
frogs: One child knew that
frogs use their eyes to help
shove food down their throat.
The kids then did some frog -
painting by using tory frogs
dipped in paint and put onto
paper lily pads. They ended
their week by watching the
video "Frog goes to dinner
today."
The Grade 1.'s have started
"Air Adventures". They
explored moving paint with
air from squirt bottles. eye-
droppers and straws. They
made pin wheels and spirals
to detect the movement of air.
The Grade 2s continued
with their egg unit and tried
.an experiment called. "The
Shrinking Egg-. The kids put
an egg into corn syrup and
left it for 72 hours. Guess
what" The egg shrunk 1 cm.
They tried another experi-
ment called "the sinking and
floating egg- They put salt
into the water with an egg in
it and the egg was to float.
However. the egg didn't float
so Mrs. Vivian figured they
must not have used .enough
salt. A challenge was•given
for the kids to see if they
could drop an egg from the
top of a ladder and not break
it. The kids could use any
material from the classroom
to make some sort of equip-
ment that would protect it
from breaking. The kids
worked in groups and most
of them used some sort of
basket and parachute idea
There were no broken eggs.
Mrs. Crocker took the
Grade 4 kids for a walk in the
woods to measure trees. They
sketched trees. made bark
rubbings and measured the
height of trees by using a
pencil. If you want to know
how you can measure a tree
with a pencil. ask any Grade
4 student in Walton.
Marjory and Peggy
Humphries were greeters at
Duff's United Church on
April 6. Rev. Wally Ziegler
was guest minister this morn-
ing.
