worth over $1.4 million for
Phase 2 of St. Anne's sec-
ondary school in Clinton.
The contract was awarded
to the low bidder Logan
Contracting from the
Stratford area.
Ten general contractors had
been pre -qualified to bid on
this project and Logan's bid

Huron County taxes will not
increase this year.
At the March 27 meeting of
Huron County 'Council, it was
agreed the 1997 budget be
approved at a zero per cent
incttaase in the overall tax rate.
The approved budget also
placed $533,000 in reserve for
contingencies and slotted
$45,000 for the county library
system to compensate for the
loss of provincial grant dollars
while a complete review of
the library7s operations is
undertaken.
The council also approved a
motion that during the coming
year. the committees and
department heads "pursue vig-
orously" further savings to be
made.
Coun. Tom Cunningham of
Huliett Twp. presented the
budget recommendation to
council and said the 'pursue_
vigorously' motion was
intended to reinforce the
county's commitment to
"improve efficiencies" in
"tough times." •
Steckle stands
MP Paul Steckle will once
again stand as the Liberal
party's candidate for the rid-
ing of Huron -Bruce in the
next federal election, which
is expected to be called soon.
Steckle stood uncontested
at the March 19 nomination
meeting at Lucknow, attend-
ed by about 140 of the party
faithful.

for the Federal Progressive
Conservative Party for the

were busy last Wednesday stripping a 105 -foot spruce tree
before cutting it down behind the Seaforth Manor using a
method called "speed -lining." which was invented by a
Canadian. Big branches can fly over sheds and anything
else below without causing any damage as the fall after
being cut by a guy with a chainsaw up the tree.
