Seaforth Automotive is family -run business Seaforth Automotive and Industrial Supply has been a family -run business for more than 15 years. The store originally opened in the 1960's as James Cowan and Company Ltd. with Garry Osborn as manager. In 1965 it amalgamated with United Auto Parts (UAP) and became a corporate store. In 1975 UAP was sold to Gary Smith to become an associate store renamed Seaforth Automotive and Indus SupplIt w sold in 1980 to the pre owners, the Wilbees. Bruce and Sharon Wilbee run the auto pa store at 58 Main St., Seaforth. Their son Ja joined the staff in 1995 full-time after many ye of part-time service.Oe Huard has been with the business since 1980. M and Bruce have close to years automotive expe ence each. Sharon hand all the office work and bookkeeping. Seaforth Automotive also carries body shop paints and supplies; tool and accessories; weldin gas and supplies. Mach shop service is also avai able. The Wilbees believe in good service, quality prod ucts and fair prices. Owner Bruce Wilbee talks about the challenges of doing business in a s tough economy with g increased competition ine from outside of town. "Competition from big- ger stores and towns is getting tougher all the time. All we can do is stock what we think we should, give the best ser- vice we can - which is eas- ier with our overnight warehouse service - and hope the customers will give us a chance to show them what we can do." He is hopeful for the future. "We are a small, hometown business that we hope will be here for many years to serve the town." Dedicated v The Royal Canadian Legion, 123 Main Stree S. in Seaforth, is com- prised of a group of very dedicated volunteers. Originally titled "Seaforth Branch No. 15 of the British Empire Service League," it was chartered on October 25, 1929 with Col. R.S. Archibald serving as President. The name was changed to the "Royal Canadian Legion" in 1962 From its first day the Legion assumed responsi bility for all matters per- taining to the welfare of veterans and their depen- dents, ever mindful of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in two World Wars. One of its first activities was to orga- nize a church parade and an Armistice Day Service which still takes place every November 11 at the cenotaph, a church ser- vice held the Sunday before.
