R.P.'s Carpentry handles renovations
Need rniwvation work
done? Thinking of build-
ing a new home, or
expanding your current
one? If so, contact R.P.'s
Carpentry at R.R.4,
Walton, Ont. They do
roofing, renovations, cus-
tom brick homes, decks,
interior/exterior trim, cabi-
nets, farm and commercial
buildings.
Ron and Shelly Pryce
established R.P.'s
Carpentry in the summer
of 1994 to provide
Seaforth with quality car-
pentry service. Although
he had never owned a
business before, Ron, a
licensed carpenter, felt
comfortable starting out
on his own because of his
10 years work experience
in the carpentry field. He
credits much of his exper-
tise to the late Peter
Flanagan of Flanagan
Carpentry with whom he
was employed for 6 1/2
years. "I learned some of
the best tricks of the trade
there," remembers Ron.
Ron and Shelly employ
licensed carpenters Mike
Boven and Rob Sloan, as
well as Gord Pryce, who
has years of practical
experience in the carpen-
try field. They consistent-
ly strive "to complete
work on a timely basis
and to ensure that quality
remains number one."
R P.'s Carpentry plans to
continue serving the
Seaforth community in the
same manner they have
since opening two years
ago. They believe future
success will depend on the
continued support of local
customers and the growth
of new businesses and
industries in Seaforth.
"Currently there appears
to be too many empty
stores on the main street
and we need to get these
filled. Hopefully our town
will aggressively seek new
industries that will create
job opportunities and
attract other new business-
es to main street."
Ron attributes his ability
to survive in today's econ-
omy to guaranteed quality
workmanship provided by
his experienced, depend-
able crew. He finds dging
business in Seaforth a
pleasant experience
because vendors will go
out of their way to see that
the customer gets the
product they are looking
for if it's not in stock. " In
the city the customer is
just another number wait-
ing to be served. "One
benefits from dealing
locally because our busi-
nesses know a good repu-
tation is the difference
between success and fail-
ure in a small town," Ron
says.
When people hire com-
panies from out of town to
do work, the customer
risks receiving a lower
quality job because out-of-
town crews know they will
probably never see the
customer again, whereas
local companies regard
their customers as neigh-
bors and friends.
According to Ron, the
only disadvantage to doing
business in Seaforth is
there tends to be Tess prod-
ucts and name brands to
select from, as well as less
competitive price varia-
tions."
Ron, Shelly and their
employees would like to
thank all their customers
for the comments they

`Decline of a Town'
Jim Sills recently
brought the following item
in to The Huron
Expositor. We'd like to
share it with our readers.
(The author is unknown).
The men were quite
cocky, they stood in the
sun
Let's go to the city, stock
up and have fun.
We'll buy by the case, all
under one roof
And save lots of money,
of that we have proof.
So, just that they did, for
many a year
And of the results, never
did they fear
Until one fine day they
perchance met again
Standing uptown, just
out of the rain.
"What's happening
here!" cried one in dismay.
Their faces were ashen;
they had much to say.
The one scratched his
head, the other said loud,
"There's no beer, no cof-
fee, where's the crowd?"
My wife is real sick and
right off her feet,
I came for some drugs,
some milk and some =Z.--
The
eat:The hospital's closed, the
grocery store's too!
What in the world are we
goin' to do?"
"My furnace is shot and
the plumbing all broken,"
The other gasped, I
thought he was chokin'.
"My car is a near wreck
and my tires are sure low,
I need nails and lumber -
- there's no place to go."
His friend hung his head,
right down to his chest,
"It's our fault," he mut-
tered, "on our heads it
rests.
We passed this town by
for the glimmer of lights
Bought stuff by the car-
load and took in the sights,
The city is busting and
bursting with pride,
And all of our merchants
they just up and died.
The houses are empty,
the bank's repossessed.
I'1Ltell you my friends
we arc in for a test."
"We should have been
smarter and wiser," they
said.
"The town would be
bustling, not nearly so
dead."
"It's never too late," I
heard one of them say.
Through the folly of
many, they all have to pay.
They parted at last with
the wind turning cold
And muttered, "Buy
locally, we should have
been told."
