Centenaires' goaltende
Scott Wood again held th
fort when it really counted, as
the Hawks .out -shot their
hosts 31-24.
"Woody" has played every
second of Seaforth's playoff
march so far, recording nine
wins against three losses and
giving up but 27 goals. tora
sparkling 2.25 goals -against -
average in the playoffs. His
peers on the other teams in
the Morenz voted him the
division's first team, all,star
goaltender at the end of
February.
Darren Kints was in net for
Exeter for both weekend
games.
Ryan Chamney got the
Hawks' other goal in the final
game of the series.
Seaforth beat Exeter with-
out their second -leading scor-
er against them during the
regular season, affiliate play-
er
layer Mark Van Dooren, who

weeks because of "simply

S And Seaforth's Centenaires
are the last team standing.
The local juniors edged the
defending Ontario Hockey
Association champion Exeter
Hawks twice by the slimmest
of margins on the weekend,
3-2 at. Seaforth Saturday and
2-1 at Exeter the night
before, to win all the Morenz
marbles, four gamcs to two in
the final.
It is their first divisional
championship in slightly
more than a decade, since the
1985-86 season when they
rocked on to win their first
and so -far only OHA crown.
1t is the fourth divisional
title they have captured since
the hockey club was put
together, in 1974-75. Their
other divisional titles were
the season before their cham-
pionship,1984-85, and in
1975-76, before eventually
being ousted by OHA cham-
pion Belmont.
The Centenaires are now
one of four teams left in the
running for this year's
Ontario title. They begin their
West (Yeck) Conference best -
of -seven series, which is also
the OHA semi-final, against
the Bulldogs at Mt. Brydges,
Thursday night at 8:30 p.m.
Game two is at Seaforth
Saturday at 8 p.m., with the
third back at Mt. Brydges on
Easter Sunday. probably at 3
in the afternoon, and game
four back in Seaforth next
Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
FULL MOON&RINK
Saturday night's squeaker
clinched the series at the
Seaforth and District
Community Centres in front
of 747 fans, under an "offi-
cial- full moon outside, and
was sweet revenge for last
season's Morenz final, which
went the distance and Exeter
won in seven games.
Those Hawks again fin-
ished first in the Morenz this
season, 17 points better than
the third-place Centenaires,
who only clinched a playoff
spot the final week of iheir
schedule, two points up on
North Middlesex in the base-
ment, who were eliminated
and went golfing early.
Only three points separated
second from fifth when the
ice chips finally settled on
this regular season's rchodule
at the end of last month. load-
ing Mitchell's manager to
comment - "it was like a
playoff game every night."
Indeed, it was.

Veteran Stave li ciaelty of

friends aid teammates,
scored twice in Saturday
night's clincher, his first on
the powcrplay, u the Cents
battled back froan a 1-0
deficit after two periods. It
was 0-0 after the fust.
Another veteran forward,
Steve Geiger of Zurich,
scored Seaforth's third goal
at 9:07 of the final period,
which stood as the winner,

Tale of the tape ...
Mt. Brydges was top dog, with the best record and only tour
losses, in the Ontario Hockey Association's Junior "D"evel-
opment League this regular season.
They won 34 games, topping the Thomas Division of the
West Conference by 20 points. The Seaforth Centenaires fin-
ished third in the other division (Morenz), of the same confer-
ence, and clawed their way 19 wins.
They got by both Lambeth and Port Stanley in six games so
far these playoffs.
The Bulldogs know where the net is, and scored 84 more
goals in their 38 regular season games than the Ccnts did.
They also gave up 31 fewer, allowing 101 goals to the Cents'
135.
FOUR 20 -GOAL SCORERS
These 'Dogs have four 20 -goal scorers in their lineup: #2
Vince Gernat (27 goals), #19 Eric Poirier (29), «17 Chris
Cowan (21) and #12 Craig Warren (24).
Seaforth had no players hit the 20 -goal plateau during the
regular season.
Gernat won the Thomas scoring title with 58 points. Poirier
was third at 56, and Cowan fourth, also with 56 points.
Mt. Brydges' "main man" in net, Kevin Fines. was his divi-
sion's all-star goaltender, posting a 2.84 goals -against -average
in 17 appearances.
Scott Wood played a total of almost 23 games between the
pipes for Seaforth, recording a 3.52 goals -against -average. He
was the Morenz Division's first -team, allstar stopper.
As,a team, the Bulldogs had 1,125 total penalty minutes dur-
ing the season - 129 more than the 996 minutes in total the
Cents sat in the "sin bin."
HEAD. -TO -HEAD
The two teams met twice during the regular season
games played more than five months ago.
The Bulldogs won them both, by identical scores of 6-4.
On Sept. 29 in Seaforth, Mt. Brydges connected four times
on the powerplay and clinched it with an empty-netter.
Exactly a month later (Oct. 29) at the Tri -Township Arena in
Mt. Brydges, Mark Van Dooren scored twice in a losing effort
for Seaforth. Each team scored twice on the powerplay in that
game, but Cents' ace Steve Mclnally had gone back to school
that Sunday night and did not play.
The Bulldogs are affiliated with the Strathroy Blades, still
very much alive and currently leading their Western Junior B
Hockey League championship final with Leamington. The
Centenaires are affiliated with the Stratford Cullitons, also
currently leading their Midwestern Junior B Hockey League
final with the Elmira Sugar Kings.
