"They put in a new concrete
floor. It was a success and
enough money was raised to
do other repairs. The school
had no glass in the windows.
A few years later when the
campaign was on to raise
money for our new commu-
nity centre. Marlen Vincent
received a personal cheque
for $100 from the Prime
Minister of Jamaica."
Westcott also remembers
the generosity of the town
towards his family.
"Many years ago my moth-
er and tater were very grate-
ful to be helped by the Lions
Club with untoresccn Dapcns-
es when my sister Blanche
was struck down with polio
and had W stay for lengthy
periods in a hospital in
London. 1 remember how
moved my father was, for
although the financial assis-
tance was welcome. it was
long -before we had Medi -
aro or OHIP. It was the ges-
ture of help that came, unso-
licited,
licited, in the spirit of -broth-
erhood."
"The Lions Park, where I
learned to swim and dive,
was-a.daintted_up river. It was
conceived, built and main-
tained by mon who are now
gone. And zmen whose inter-
est .and efforts were for the
good of the town and of the
children. And it still atands
today as a reminder of an
early and active brother-
hood."

"in speaking to new citi-
zens in court I can see they
are pleased and proud and
very grateful to be taking the
oath and receiving their_ citi-
zenship certificate. It's only
natural they should be proud
that first day they're new citi-
zens of Canada. But I suggest
to them that they should be
proud not only of that day but
everyday of being a citizen of
Canada."

Huron County Board of
Education is not only helping
people find jobs. but. proving
its commitment to life long
learning. •

•Monday alternoon that thanks
to their help, the program. was
"second to none in the Wen -
try ..
"January 1997 survey
results indicate that 84 per
cent of the participants of the
programs were working four
months after they had com-
pleted the program." McKee
noted in a. report submitted to
"council. "Also noteworthy is
the percentage of adultstu-
dents who proceed to post-
secondary programs."
The coordinator congratu-
lated the board on their "part-
nership"with the adult educa-
tion program, thanking them
for their on going support in a
time of cutbacks.
"You have implemented
-these programs at a time of
fiscal restraints." McKee told
-the board, .adding in • her
report that "Huron County is
the leader across the country
in the development• of pan-
nerships leading to the imple-
nientation of programs and

phere is relaxed and informal
with none of the dogma
many of us experienced in
public school. Which for
many of us was quite some
time ago! .
The confidence I have
acquiredthrough the}PACE
experience and my co-op
placement has boosted my
self-esteem enough to allow
me to apply for university in
the tall. 'To boldly go where
I might never have gone', if it
weren't for this experience.

enroll in accounting, social
work, child care, electronics.
nursing, health care, photog-
raphy and massage•therapy
courses. Many found
employment after PACEin
social work, auto dealership,
health care. retail sales,
accounting, custodial work.
driving, mechanical and elec-
tronics. Some even acquired
enough skills in PACE to
open their own businesses in
such fields as gas stations.
bed & breakfasts establish-
ments, home maintenance
services, cabinet making and
interior decorating.
As you can see, PACE
offers a wide variety of
opportunities to those who
are seeking a change in
careers. If you are unem-
ployed or hoping.to find a
more rewarding job I defi-
