The Huron Expositor, 1997-03-05, Page 13Srtdion More computers from hindraising There are more computers in the classroom thanks to successful Students' Council Organized fundraising at Seaforth Public School. The council has committed approximately $5,500 to the purchase of two computers. That amount has been matched by the school board. The school's budget has also'allowed the purchase of a fifth computer, and a spe- cial government grant has brought the total of new com- puters at the school to six. Each of the computers is networked, meaning students can access the Internet, store files on the file server and print to a networked printer. Each is a multi -media com- puter so CD software can be utilized in the classroom. The six new computers, along with the current bank of fourteen networked com- puters in the library, puts the school in the position to use computers in many aspects of its programs. The primary classroom computers, even though they are multi -media machines, are not network - able, so will be upgraded sometime in the future. New Backboards Students' Council has also purchased five new steel bas- ketball backboards at a cost of $2,870. Two will be used to improve the gymnasium. Three others will be installed on the yard when the weather improves. Thanks to everyone who has supported the Students' Council fundraising endeav- ors this year. A special thank you to parents who made direct donations to the com- puter fund. Second Raffle In further fundraising, the schools' advisory council undertook its second annual raffle March 4. Fighting winter blahs at Mexican Fiesta Residents of Seaforth Manor Nursing Home enjoyed joining the Retirement Home folks for a colorful "Mexican Fiesta" during February. The base- ment activity room was fes- tively decorated for the event and everyone took interest in the display of souvenirs brought back from Mexico by several staff members. A scenic travelogue took every- one to the sunny beaches of Cancun, Merida and the Yucatan peninsula for the afternoon followed by a tasty treat of nachos and salsa. The finale of the afternoon was the breaking of the pinniata with candy for everyone. Residents traded in their authentic tickets to Mexico for a chance at a lucky draw. Winners were Theresa Lauzon from the nursing home and Eleanor Sharp and Isobel Murray from the GUITARIST WANTED Looking for mature guitarist to form 50-90's rock band. 482-7145 (Seaforth Manor Nursing Home retirement home.
