Minor hockey playoffs start
The Seaforth atom and ban-
tam Stars started Ontario
Minor Hockey Association
playoffs Sunday, with most
• local entries in the six other
divisions scheduled to get
underway this week or next.
Local goalies came up big.
Nick Chessell got the shutout
on.the road at Durham as the
Stars .notched a 2-0 triumph
in atom 1 action, and Dan
O'.Reilly .was almost as
stingy for the bantams
against 'Durham at the
Spaforth and District
-Community-Centres, helping
the hometowners to a 4-1
win. When•$he score stood 2-
0-for.Soaforth.late in the first
. period he also shut the door
on a.pcnalty *hot when a goal
for the visitors might have
.wide things turn out differ-
-enuy..
AlIaeries-.re best -of -five,
;end all.but•the,novice playoff
,will .also -.determine the
' Western Ontario Athletic
Association champion.
Game two of the bantam
playoff .was last night
. (Tueaday) ,at Durham with
the third at Durham next
Monday at 9 pm.. and the
second.gsme-pf The atom

from Saturday, nn Feb. 8 at
6:15.
NEW BLOOD NEEDED
. The Seaforth novices play
. their -first playoff game
against Clinton here next
Tuesday(Feb. 41 at 5:30 pin.
The local peewee "1"s
opened at Durham last night.
Game two was still up in the
air at press time.
Our peewee "11"s host
Arthur in their first game a
week Friday, on Feb. 7 at
8:15 p.m.
.Both the atom "11"s and
midgets await the winners of
other first-round playoffs.
Those atoms are automatic
WOAA champs, since no
Otherteamscompeted. at their
-level -in the area. They will
play the winner of another
OMHA first-round playoff,
perhaps not .until Feb.. 23 by
when a winner -must - be
declared.
The Seaforth •midgets. are
similarly waiting for a win-
ner from the best -of -three
first-round playoff .series
between Clinton and
Durham -which also ',might
not be known until the 23rd.
And Seaferth's intermedi-
ate girls will probably begin
their playoffs Feb. 9, against
an as -yet -to -be -determined
opponent.
The Seaforth and:District
Minor•Huckey Association is
down to five directors, and
P.resildent Graham Nesbitt
says they need some .new
blood now, if:anyonc is inter-
ested, to assist. with .upcom-
ing tournaments, among
oilier duties.
