Congratulations to Todd Kramers and Linda Markle on the happy arrival of a dar- ling baby girl, Isis Corinne Kramers, born o., December 20 at Seafo•th Hospital. Ashley and Sarah welcome their new sister. All of Todd and Linda's many friends welcome this new arrival. Birthdays are always good news also. Happy Birthday to a very special "Dubliner", Steve Shewan who celebrates his birthday on Jan 18. Steve, we love your work and your smiles and competence at lawn ornaments, interlock etc. Love from Pam, family, in-laws, and other relatives and friends. Keep up the Aless good work. Heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended to the Whaling and Kelly families during the recent sudden death of Brian Whaling of R.R. #l, St. Pauls. Our love and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Dublin, Mitchell, Staffa and other local areas were sad- dened and concerned about the loss of the house by fire of Bruce and Joan Dow and family. We all hope to help you in many ways. We all wish recovery to a very special Dublin lady, Wilhelmina Poppe. Our love and prayers are with you. Congratulations to Ken and Waneeta McGrath (and big brother, Tommy) on the safe arrival of Timothy Patrick on November 27, 1996. At Hensall United Church Rev. Annen's message was "A Lesson From A Golfer". Belva Fuss was the organist for the ministry of song. The worshippers were welcomed by Pat Veal. Hilda Payne and Anne Annen received the offering. Dave Campbell was in charge of the elevator. The children's story was "Baptized". A fellowship hour hosted by the property committee was enjoyed. Rev. Henry thanked those who had donated to the Food Bank. The Annual Meeting will be held on January 26 following a potluck lunch after church. Hensall Legion Branch 468 'held their first meeting of 1997 on January 8. Poppy chairman Larry Uyl reported that 15 cheese baskets had been delivered to vets, and some ofourmembers visited our adopted vet, Mary Ice cream survey CONTINUED from page 13 about the different parts of the body and how they work, etc. The Grade 4s had fun singing a song called, "If Snowflakes Fell in Flavors", So in relation to that the kids did a survey' of the whole school to see which flavor of ice cream was the favorite. By far, "Bubblegum" was the winning flavor. The Walton UCW met Wed. Jan. 8 at Duff's United Church. Audrey Hackwell and Marie Coutts opened the meeting with a short worship service. Marie read a new year's reading about things that we can do to make our lives happier. Did you know that smiling can make you look 10 years younger? We should see a lot of younger looking people now. Patty Banks played the piano while the ladies joined in singing some "oldies but goodies", hymns. Because it was the new year and because it was suggested in the reading that we should all try to learn new things, a new hymn was learned. Leona McDonald closed the program with another helpful reading. Leona along with Monique Baan took over the business part of the meeting. The beef dinner that was to be served at the hall on Sunday was postponed due to stormy weather and will be held Jan. 26. Heidi and Fred McClure and kids were greeters at Duff's United Jan. 5th. Rev. Murray gave the Call to Worship and the opening hymn was sung. After scrip- ture readings and announce- ments he called the young worshippers to the front and asked them if they had ever seen anyone baptized before and if they remembered their own? He went on to tell what it meant to be baptized and he carried this theme into his sermon. 'rt ' O'Dwyer, in Parkwood Hospital. The first night of solo was held Thursday, January 9 with a good crowd of enthusiastic solo players. There will be solo at the Legion for the next nine weeks on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Saturday night many friends held a retirement party for Wilma Caldwell. She was presented with a Kierstead painting and a dozen roses from the Legion and Ladies Auxiliary for all the years Wilma dedicated herself to her job many times far beyond her regular duties as bartender. Helen MacLean was chair- person for the first meeting of 1997 of the Friendship Circle which was held Monday, January 6 at 1:30 p.m. in Hensall United Church. A video "Scars That Heal" was shown by Helen MacLean. The roll call was answered by 15 members naming a kindness they could do for someone. A delicious lunch was hosted by Mary Britnell and Mona Alderdice, and a time of fellowship enjoyed. The Annual Meeting of the Hensall Carmel Presbyterian Church will be held on January 28. The Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary had its meeting on January 8 in the Legion Hall. President Iva Reid presided. Thank you cards were read from veterans and life mem- bers of the auxiliary who had received poinsettias at Christmas. A donation was made towards Hensall Arena for two hours ice time for free skating. The Auxiliary and Legion are going to the Queensway Nursing Home to put on a party for Valentine's Day. The president informed members of upcoming ban- quets and weddings for the coming year. Tournament season at community centre Senior Shuffleboard contin- ues every Wednesday after- noon at the Seaforth and District Community Centres from 1:30 to 4 pm. Murray 207 The Seaforth Senior Games Committee held their month- ly euchre fundraiser at the Legion last Thursday, and would like to thank all those that braved the snow and cold to support the local games. Once again we are into tournament season at the Seaforth and District Community Centres, there- fore the public skating, and other regular schedules will be postponed. The upcoming tournament include the Atom Hockey Tournament on January 18 and 19, the Broomball League Tournament on January 24, 25 and 26 and the Ringette Tournament on February 14, 15 and 16. Come up to the Community Centre and take in some exciting action.
