COMEBACK IN THE HAWKS' NEST - The Seaforth Centenaires' all-star forward Tim Barton (#12) celebrates as team-
mate J.C. Kirk finally gets the best of Mitchell goaltender Troy Chessell Friday night. Seaforth scored twice in the final
eight minutes to come home with a 2-2 tie. They beat the same Hawks 2-1 Sunday night in Seaforth.
Cents give fans something to cheer about
The Seaforth Centenaires
have pulled up their socks
and look sharp to start the
New Year.
Steve Mclnally rapped
home the winner in the wan-
ing minutes, with 2:59 left on
the clock Sunday night at the
Seaforth arena as the Cents
stung the Mitchell Hawks 2-1
in front of about 325 fans, the
largest home crowd so far
this season for the local
juniors.
Friday night at Mitchell in
the front end of the tradition-
al OHA Junior Development
League Morenz Division hol-
iday home -and -home series,
in front of another healthy
crowd, the Cents dispatched a
two -goal deficit by striking
twice in the final eight min-
utes of regulation to come
home with a 2-2 tie.
In their final start before
Christmas, the previous
Sunday, Seaforth played an
inspired game at Lucan, earn-
ing a second -consecutive vic-
tory over the Irish 6, this time
by a score of 4-1.
The busiest weekend of this
season's schedule is what the
Cents now have in store for
them - three games in less
than three days. Seaforth
hosts Lucan Friday night at
8:30, travels to Parkhill for
an 8:15 start Saturday, and to
Delhi for a Sunday afternoon
game at 2.
The Centenaires are holding
steady in the loss column
these days, unbeaten in four,
and looking in far better form
than they were in the middle
of December when they start-
ed their busy Christmas
schedule.
Seaforth is now in second
place in the Moretti: with a
15-11-2 record, three points
up on Mitchell in third, but
10 points back of the divi-
sion -leading and defending
OHA champion Exeter
Hawks.
Seaforth goaltender Charles
Robertson is likewise unbeat-
en in the last four, a develop-
ment which couldn't have
come at a more crucial time
for the team. He has kept the
shooters in striking distance
with big stops at the right
time, and has lowered his
own goals against average to
a most respectable 2.71.
He out -dueled the stingiest
goaltending tandem in the
Morenz - Troy Chessell and
Scott Vosper - in the Mitchell
games on the weekend.
Captain Jason Henderson
started the play Mclnal y fin-
ished by beating Vos r for
the late winner Sunda
Seaforth.
Steve Geiger opened the
scoring for Seaforth midway
through the first, but James
Herr capitalized on a defen-
sive giveaway as Mitchell
equalized with just more than
three minutes remaining in
the opening 20.
That's the way the score
stayed until the end.
Mitchell outshot Seaforth
32-28.
JAWS OF DEFEAT
Martin Van Den Hoven and
Mark Mahon scored and the
hometown Hawks were soar-
ing along with a 2-0 cushion
until Geiger connected on the
powerplay for Seaforth with
7:22 remaining.
It was only the fifth time
the snake -bit Cents had beat-
en Chessell in nine periods
this season.
Less than two minutes later
Scott Van Dooren did it
again, as Seaforth snatched a
point on the road from the
jaws of defeat, and missed a
couple of good chances by a
whisker in the five-minute
sudden -death overtime.

CENTS 4 IRISH 1
The Centenaires played
solid from start to finish in
front of another big crowd,
holding Lucan (chipper from
an overtime win over the
division -leading Hawks at
Exeter Friday) to a scant 13
shots on net.
The Irish opened the scor-
ing with a short-handed strike
early in the second period,
but a dribbler through the
pads by Jarrett Jeffrey and a
timely tap by J.C. Kirk after
some persistent forechecking
gave Seaforth a 2-1 lead
heading into the final 20 min-
utes.

A pretty goal by Scott

over Lucan in a week.
