Middle a muddle
Cents in second after strange week in Morenz
A 5-3 loss to the North
Middlesex Stars Friday night
left the Seaforth Centenaires
ill at case just two points out
ofthe basement.
But an 8-1 romp over the
St. George Dukes Sunday
made picked them right up
and leap -frogged Seaforth
into second place in the
Morenz Division.
Last week's upsets, and
unexpected results left -the
OHA Junior "D"evelopment
League's most -competitive
division a wild muddle in the
middle by Monday morn.
When the chips settled from
this past weekend. the split
of their pair of home starts
had lifted the Centenaires
over Lucan into second , one
point up on both the Irish and
Mitchell. with Parkhill/North
Middlesex in the basement
just three points behind them.
But odds are not very long.
Because Mitchell meets the
Irish head=to-head tonight
(Wednesday) in Lucan.
And all three teams at this
moment chasing Seaforth
have games in hand.
CHAMPS COMING
Meanwhile, sitting prettiest,
eight points ahead of every-
body else in the Morenz are
the defending OHA champi-
on Exeter Hawks still with
the best record in the JDL
and only two losses so far
this season.
They are here in Seaforth to
start seasonal entertainments
in earnest at the rink Sunday
afternoon at 2:30.
The Cents will have just
come back from Belmont,
where the play the Bombers
Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
Considered almost a free two
points until last week, the
Bombers fooled everybody
by humping off both_ Lucan
and Hagerssillc. ' -
And so it goes. • •
WIN AND LOSS
Jarrett Jeffrey of Zurich
earned a hat trick when the
Seaforth dumped the Dukes
Sunday. Scott Van Dooren
bagged a pair and the Cents
got singles from Steve
McInally. Shaun Anstett and
J.C. Kirk. They lead 3-1 after
the first period and 8-1 after
the second. Aaron Parsons.
fresh from playing for .the
Stratford Cullitons agajnst
.Listowel Saturday. got three
assists. Charles Robertson
got the victory .in net as
Seaforth out -shot St. George
40-21.
A sloppy five minutes in
their own zone in the second
period sank the Cents Fnday
night: They had difficulty
cleaning their slot with any
authority from the seven to
12 -minute -mark. so saw a 2-1
lead become a 4-2 deficit
when Parkhill snipers con-
nected three times on shots
that could have been preyent-
ed. •
Everybody then settled
down and both teams scored
once in the third
Brent Hulley. McInally and
Parsons connected for the
Centenaires. - -
Shots were even at 34 each.
The Cents' leading scorer
Tim Barton missed both
weekend games with a knee
injury.
Seaforth's tykes will play
an exhibition- between peri-
ods of the big Exeter tilt at
the arena Sunday afternoon.
