The children are: Kailyn Burke. Diane Cronin, Nicholas Dorssers, Kathryn Elston, Joseph Flanagan. Lisa Melady, Heather Murray, Brett O'Reilly and Calvin Searle. Each of the children were presented with a certifi- cate from Father -J. Hardy and rosaries from the Catholic .Women's League. St. Columban"] by Cecilia Ryan 345-2028 Following Mass a pancake and sausage breakfast was served by the social commit- . tee in the parish hall. The Father Stephen Eckert Council of the Knights of Columbus held its annual turkey pingo in thc St. Columban Church hall on Friday with a very good crowd attending. Twelve games for a fresh turkey -and four share the wealth games were played. Proceedsfrom this event are used to buy Christmas treats for the handicapped children at the Goderich and Huron Park schools. The St. Columban Catholic Women's League Christmas dinner is next Monday, (Dec. 2) at 7 p.m. in the St. Columhan Church hall. Ladies are asked to bring warm mittens .or gloves for the "mitten tree". The St. Nicholas event for all children will he•held next Sunday. Dec. 13 in the Rectory Presentation on World Affairs Last Thursday at the gener- al meeting, Jane Powell, a student at Seaforth District High School gave the mem- hcrs a very interesting pre- sentation on the World ,Affairs seminar which she attended last June 9-14 at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. Jane told of her experiences and what she had _learned of other cultures in the world and of how proud she is to he Canadian. There were students.from all over the world including 16 from -Canada,- six of whom/Wer from Ontario. 'Jane thanked` Branch 156 for its financial help to attend this seminar. The memhcrs thanked Jane Seaforth Legion by Barbara Scott e for thc very interesting pre- sentation. Zone Commander CI Gordon De Jong and Deputy Zone Commander June Pyctt attended the meeting for their official visit bringing greet- ings from the other Legions in Zone Ct.-Gordon congrat- ulated Branch 156 on the good work being done within the Branch. Jean Ross, seniors chair- . man. reported the' Monday. euchres arc going very well and that for the past couple' of weeks the , players have donated food for the local food hank. Youth .Education Chairman Charles Perkins showed the winning entries in the poems, essays and 'posters contest. These were very impressive and- will now he sent on to the Zone -level of the compe- tition. The committee would like. to thank everyone who sold Grey Cup tickets and Nought tickets. Special thanks to Gwen Harhurn who headed the committee. At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Early Years students go on turtle hunt at school In talking with Mrs. Scott. teacher of thc Early Years class, she said that her kids have learned the letter "t" this • week. So they made turtles and even went -on a turtle hunt. They have also begun taking music with all kinds of instruments in preparation for the Christmas concert. In Grade 2 students have 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and have designed 'their own square or rectangle shape using jinx wood. The class is also tracking another amaryl- lis bulb. Last year their amaryllis flower broke. so they're hoping for better (Walton by Patty Banks ' 887-6860 luck this year. The Grade 2/3'class is studying Canada. Sonic of the kids were amazed at how hig Canada really is. and that Ontario is only a small part ,.of Canada. Mrs. Vivian air reported that chicken po* rs, still going around. There have been gnitc a few cases in both her class and Grade 1. The Grade 3/4 class did a wonderful job at doir'g their oral presentations of fables this week, using plays and skits.' Sonic of the class is now learninl,hraille as a fol- lowup of the novel' they just read about a little hlind girl. Fbr environmental studies -with Mrs. Crocker. they are working in a unit called Echo Pals - pen pals, labout the environment. Three penpals are in Salt Spring is. in- B.C. They are also working on the Great Canadian Geography Challenge. Levet. A large crowd enjoyed the Paraguayan harp concert on Sunday afternoon. A coffee hour was enjoyed following the concert. The Hens -all Shuffleboard scores for. Eva Brown. and -Deputy Zone Commander Velma Young to the meeting for their annual visit. - Discussion was held about banquets and so forth coming up before Christmas. November' 11: Hensall Legion held their annual Remembrance Day banquet With a good attendance. - ..Gue st speaker Claus Breedc gave a thought provoking speech as. he paid tribute to the thousands of Canadian soldiers who took part in the .-I943-44 Italian campaign and of the horrendous conditions the) experienced. The high- est.award the Legion bestows on its members was given to Comrade Larry C`y,l. The Meritorious Service Medal was presented by Zone .Commander Gordon IhJong and Past Zone .Commander John McDonald. Larry has been very active in .the Branch for many years and is certainly well deserving i►f this honor. Other awards pre- sented were: Branch President Bryan Fink, Past Officers Medal; Padre Henry Annen, Past Officers Medal, Chaplain's Bar; and Larry Uyl, Poppy Bar..
