HOT CAR - The Seaforth Fire Department answered a call last Monday night to fight a car
fire two and a half miles west of town. Firemen had the blaze extinguished faster than it
took the many onlookers to disperse.
Fire in Hullett Township
Some arca firefighters were
on the scene for about six -
hours at an early -morning
fire that levelled the home of
Trim Nott on Conc. 2 of
Hullett Township on Oct. 31.
The alarm was sounded at
Clinton at about 1:30 a.m.

more so because of high

Citizenship Awards during the BIA's Christmas Party at the Seaforth Community Centres.

Local citizens honoured
Three local residents were
honoured Saturday night for
their volunteer work, dedica-
tion and service to the com-
munity.
The Scaforth Citizenship
Award winners . were
announced following the BIA
Christmas dinner at the
Scaforth Community
Centres.
Humanitarian Service
Peg Coombs won the
Humanitarian Scrvicc Award
for 1996. Pcg is a Icing -time
resident of Scaforth and has
been involved in thc St.
Thomas Anglican Church for
over 40 years.
. Among her many accom-
plishments. she has been a
chaperone for the SDHS
Girls Band, has been
involved with the Senior
Citizens Group and a mem-
ber of the Hospital Auxiliary.
She is an active member of
thc Scaforth Legion and
Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She
has held many offices in the
Legion and was president of
the auxiliary for about nine
years.
"Pcg is, always willing to
lend a hand and is well
known throughout the com-
munity. Her thoughtfulness
and caring of other people
has always hcen evident."
said Mayor Irwin Johnston
before presenting her with
the, award.
The award came as a bit of.
a surprise to Peg. "It was
quite an honour," she says.
For her years of various vol-
unteer work in the communi-
ty. she says. "It was a labour
of love."

Charles Perkin was thc
recipient of the 1996 Civic
Service Award. -
He is currently the Scaforth
Senior Games Chairman and
has been for more than cight
years. He also represents
Seaforth on the district com-
mittee. Charlie is a member
of Seaforth Branch 156 and
has held the position of
Education Officer for four
years. This past summer he
volunteered to help move
hooks for the library when
renovations were being com-
pleted.
"Charlie is always willing
to help out when asked. He
oversees all the Scaforth
Senior Games, special events
and fundraisers thcy host.
Without the leadership. that
he provides. Scaforth may
not he as well represented in
the Senior Games as we cur-
rently arc," commented
Mayor Johnston.
Charlie told .The Huron
Expositor he was "pretty
pleased" with thc award and
"shocked" at the same time.
"I was speechless," he said.
"I'd like to thank Marty
(Bedard) - Recreation
Director, my wife and all the
people who made it possi-
ble," added Perkins.
Service to Sports
Hank Binnendyk was pre-
sented with the Service to
Sports Award on Saturday
night.
He is recently retired and
has taken a keen interest in
making tennis more popular
in Seaforth. This past sum-
mer Hank volunteered his
time to teach two groups of
lessons, one for teens and one
for adults. Hc has also been
active on thc high school ten-
nis teams as a coach.
"Hank gives freely of his
time and when asked to help
someone improve on their
tennis skills, he is always
available. Hank is very inter-
ested in promoting tennis for
Scaforth and wants to get
more people using the excel-
lent facilities we have," said
the Mayor of Scaforth.
"I was honoured," said
Binncndyk. He says there's a
positive effect from the annu-
al awards. "Maybe it will
motivate people in the com-
munity to participate more.
And contribute to the better-
ment of the community."

Three vehicles
stolen from
TMP dealership
Keys to cars were stolen
and three vehicles removed
from the' lot at a break -and -
enter at the TMP car dealer-
ship in Egmondville on Nov.
16. rep�oorts Crime Stoppers of

All three were recovered - a
Chevellc on sideroad 15/16
in Tuckersmith Township, a
pick-up at the old dump
behind Scaferth's industrial
park and a Cavalier in
Stanley Township.
A Goderich St. gas station
in Seaforth was also broken
into on Nov. 15,.or early the
next morning. Police say the
sale had been tampered with,
entry gained and money
removed.
Kids throwing snowballs
smashed the window of a
house on Quebec Road in
Vanastra on Nov. 18.
Culprits also broke into the
community centre in Usborne
Township on Nov. 19.
Twelve cans of assorted beer,
cans of orange juice and a
blue coat were stolen and
about $300 in damage was
done to the centre.
