Many costumed characters parade in school gym
Witches, beautiful fairies
and princesses, spooky look-
ing creatures, and many other
characters paraded in the
gym on Halloween, giving
the visiting parents and
grandparents a great show.
Later each class returned to
their rooms to play games
and eat goodies.
The Early Years class made
a witch's brew for their party.
The brew bubbled and boiled
in the cauldron (orange soda
pop and ice cream). They had
lots of visitors and enjoyed
wonderful treats. Thanks to
Barb Durrell who helped the
class make pipe cleaner cats.

to their school.
The Grade Is had fun learn-
ing about math using pump-
kins. They counted and mea-
sured seeds and learned about
different weights. A favorite
game that they played was
the "marshmallow ghost bit-
ing game." For details about
the game contact a grade one
child.
Some favorite games that
the Grade 2/3 class played
was the balloon stomping,
mummy, wrap, werewolf tear,
and they especially enjoyed
breaking their spider pinatas
which were full of candies.
For Halloween fun the
Grade 3/4s designed their
own make believe tomb-
stones and- wrote their epi-
taphs. One of them read that
the person died from working
himself to death. He would
be remembered for being a
good worker. Some were
remembered for their soccer
and hockey skills, some were

Residents celebrate Octoberfest
Hi, everyone. Did everyone
enjoy their turkey dinners
and Halloween goodies last
month? Our diningroom
looked very festive as it was
decorated with various pic-
tures on the walls, .balloons
and orange, yellow and black
streamers to celebrate
Thanksgiving ' and
Halloween.
Our residents enjoyed play-
ing Scrabble a few times this
month with members of
Community Living,
Egmondville. What a'great
opportunity it was to make
new friends and compete in a
friendly word game.
On Oct. 19, Sallie Lawton

very informative talk on

"what time is best." Thanks
to Sallie for spending a Sat.
with us also this was her last
official duty with placement.
Internet usage
lower than
predicted
Statistics Canada reported
last week that only 7.4 per
cent of Canadian households
use the Internet from their
home computers, leaving
92.6 per cent - or 10.6 mil-
lion households that don't.
Usage is lower than experts
predicted.

On Oct. 29 we celebrated
Octoberfest: First off we
enjoyed a fantastic movie on
Germany then for supper we
,had mouthwatering
Octoberfest sausage with
sauerkraut. Then in the
evening we kicked up our
heels to some polka'music
that was supplied by staff on
records. We even enjoyed the
odd beer so that we would
get the "true" feeling of
Octoberfest. Many posters of
Germany could he found
throughout our home so that
it felt as if we had travelled
on an armchair voyage to
Germany. Great fun was had
by all.
Halloween was observed in
many ways at our home.
Ruth Vandermeer won- a
paper pumpkin face contest.
Such artistic drawings we
saw. It was difficult to choose
a winner. Everyone helped to
carve out jack o lanterns for
Halloween.
It was such "a gooey" time.
What fun it was to see all the
boys and girls who dressed
up in their scary costumes to
receive lots of candy this
year.
Our annual family
Christmas dinner will be held
on Dec. 5 this year. There is
an invitation in this month's
billing with all of the infor-
mation. We would appreciate
a prompt reply so that we
may begin our preparations.
Happy Birthday this month
to Murray Rollinson Nov. 4;
Catherine Walsh, Nov. 19.
We welcome Isabel Murray
this month.

FINANCIALLY SPEAKING
PRESERVING
YOUR WEALTH
What you
should consider
Kenneth L. Nesbitt, CLU, C.H.F.C.
Chartered Financial Consultant
Agency Manager, MetLife
Most people spend a lifetime accumulat-
ing wealth. However, many overlook a
few simple ways to preserve this wealth.
The following is an overview of what you
should consider.
Wills
A will is a very important part of your
financial plan. You and your spouse
should both have an up-to-date will pre-
pared by a qualified professional, such
as a lawyer or notary, to ensure its valid-
ity. 11 you die intestate (without a valid
will). you lose control over what happens
to your assets. This can have serious
implications for your estate and benefi-
ciaries since provincial laws decide who
gets what and when.
Power of attorney
A power of attorney is alegal document
that allows you to appoint a person (the
'attorney') to act on your behall.
Generally, it allows for the management
of your finances and/or personal care.. 11
also allows you to set out your wishes in
advance which can assist your family in
making potentially difficult decisions.
Without it, they might have to go to court
for the authority to act on your behall.
Probate tees
Provincial probate fees must usually be
paid before third parties, such as banks,
will transfer and release the assets of
the deceased to the executor of the
deceased's estate. They are charged In
all provinces except Quebec (probate
fees are not charged in Quebec when
the will is notarized). which has motrvat
ed many people to look for ways to
reduce of avoid them altogether.
A common method of reducing probate
fees is to Insure that real estate inter-
ests. such as the matnmonial home or
cottage, are held as "joint tenants' rather
than as 'tenants in common'. By doing
so, when one of the joint tenants dies.
the property, is automatically transferred
to the surviving joint tenant. 11 does not
form part of the estate and therefore
probate fees are not charged.
