Sunday afternoon Showdown in C4TH
Cents hot but Hawks still hottest
The Centenaires are unde-
feated in six after two games
on the road this weekend a
2-2 tie in Mitchell Friday and
8-2 win at Burford Sunday -
but they still lost ground in
the once -again -lively Morenz
Division to the defending
OHA Junior "D"evelopment
League champion Exeter
Hawks, who they play
Sunday afternoon in
Seaforth.
The Seaforth juniors had a
7-2-1 record heading into last
night's game (Tuesday) at
Mt. Brydges, having only
missed a single point in the
standings from their half-
dozen outings since an unfor-
tunate outcome at Lucan Oct.
9.
But that was only. good
enough for second in the
Morenz as of this Tuesday,
because the first -place Hawks
remained undefeated with
two games in hand and an 8-
0 record by skating out of
Mt. Brydges with a 4-1 win
Sunday.
This season those Bulldogs
arc no pussy cats. They were
the JDL's only other unde-
feated team until Sunday, still
challenging for first in
Thomas Division with games.
tin hand on Thamesford.
Anyway, the Hawks only
lost four games during the
regular schedule last year but
the Centenaires, third-place
a( that time, took them to a
surprising seven in last
spring's Morenz final.
Sunday's 2:30 in the after-
noon game here in Seaforth
on "Meet The Players Night"
is.the first time they .have
said hello since then.
CENTS 8 BURFORD 2
The Centenaires had a wide
margin in shots on net in both
weekend games, but didn't
start hitting the target in
earnest until the sixth and
final period.
They only had 13 skaters
on the trip but erupted for
five unanswered goals, two
of them while shorthanded,
in the third period at Burford
Sunday night.
These Burford Bulldogs
had a full contingent but were
outshot 48 to 20, including
by a 16-3 margin in the first
period. which ended 1-1.
It was 3-2 for Seaforth after
two.
Then the' Green gunners,
who have scored more than
any team in the entire JDL so
far this season, found the
.range.
Mark Van Dooren, who is
putting points on the board
with regularity of Tate, got
two goals in the game.
including the first short-hand-
ed one, which sealed
Burford's fate and made it 6-
2. Jason Henderson got an
unassisted shorthander with
1:13 left, the last lit lamp of
the evening.
