"mov- ing the much needed goods to the desperate nation has become a real challenge. "There arc still a few hun- dred dollars needed to finish paying for the bus. Donations payable to the Huron County Board of Education, in trust for this purpose will be grate- fully received. "Sorry, Fidel - can't issue Canadian tax receipts!" Humanitarian aid in the yel- low school bus that was col- lected across Huron and Bruce Counties earlier this year has begun its journey to Cuba "after a frustrating three-month delay," accord- ing to the director of the Huron County Board of Education's most recent in- house newsletter. "Seems that the U.S. Helms -Burton law (penaliz- ing those who trade with its Communist neighbour) has wrecked havoc on the Canadian sugar trade with Cuba, and reduced ocean freighter traffic between Montreal and Havana," Paul Carroll states. The packed bus sat in his driveway on Goderich Street in Seaforth most of the sum- mer. "There's apparently a bot- tleneck of backlogged humanitarian aid shipments Information meetings at Walton, Ethel CONTINUED from page 9 fill site will be open on Sat., Jan. 4.
