Another new doctor at clinic

Dr.- Susan Norton starts
today (Wednesday) as
Seaforth Medical Clinic's
eighth doctor and third
female physician.
Norton was recently prac-
tising in the northern Ontario
community of Englehart, two
hours north of North Bay
near Kirkland Lake.
Englehart is a community
of 1,60( and has a clinic and
hospital facilities similar to
Seaforth. "I was looking for a
small, rural family practice,"
says Dr. Norton.
She previously worked with
Dr. I)an Rooyak ke rs.- at
Englehart and heard from
him about the positive atmos-
phere at Seaforth clinic. Dr.
Norton also found out about
Seaforth Community
Hospital at the recruitment
tour held in Kingston. It was
there she met I)r. Mark
Woldnik, Gwen Devereaux,
business manager and Bill
Thibert, CEO.

Dr.' Norton studied medi-
cine at UWO in London and
completed her post graduate
work in Ottawa.
She is now living in
Kitchener with her husband

At its regular meeting Sept.
17, Seaforth's Local
Architectural Conservation
Committee decided that this
year's commercial, property
improvement award is to he
presented to Bee and Doug
Foreman of face's Ladies and
Men's Fashions at 30 Main
Street South "for the dramat•

ic facelift including paintipg
the trim on the entire store-
front and second storey
facade in historic colours and
replacing the sign with a new,
period -style sing that comple-
ments the building and store-

that no award is recommend -

building destroyed by fire
this summer and still barri-
caded., He noted "that before
, a demolition permit will be'

No advantage to
amalgamation
At its Oct. 1 meeting,
Hullett Council carried a
motion seeking support for
it's final analysis (and that of
other area council's) on
restructuring, that "there
would be no advantage to the
ratepayers for the municipali-
ties to amalgamate."
Tile drain loan applications
were approved, as follows:
Conc. 6 Lot 30 - $20,000;
Conc. 10 Lot 20 - $5,600;
Conc. 11 Lot 20, $18,000;
and Conc. 13 Lot 41, $9,700.
A $25 permit fee for a tem-
porary mobile home was
waived, due' to a fire Pt. Lot
12, Conc. 14.
Accounts of $441,878.38
for September were
approved, passed and paid.

New clinics
at hospital
The Seaforth Community
Hospital has established a
Paediatrics Clinic and
Obstetrics/Gynecology Clinic
beginning this month,
according to a recent press
release.
Dr. Shamim Tejar, a paedia-
trician from Stratford, will he
conducting the paediatrics
clinic and Dr. Cheryl Hillyer,
an obstetrician from
Stratford, will be conducting
the other clinic. "The hospital
is very pleased to welcome
these two physicians to our
medical staff," stated the
press release.
Bill Thibert, CEO, com-
mented that "one of the pri-
mary advantages in establish-
ing these outpatient speciality
clinics at the hospital is the
convenience they create for
our residents in not having to
travel from our community to
receive these services."
Other outpatient clinics
presently being provided at
the hospital include Internal
Medicine (Drs. V. Quinlan,
C. Tamblyn, and A.
vanWalraven), Orthopaedics
(Dr. C. Zrciszewski), Surgery
(Dr. K. Rodney) and
Paedictric Ears, Nose and
Throat (Dr. E. Scott).
The two new clinics will be
held on a monthly basis at the
hospital. A medical referral
from a family physician is
required to access these spe-
cialty clinics.
New medical program
A new rural medical train-
ing program was announced
by the Ontario government
Friday, by Huron MPP Helen
Johns, parliamentary assistant
to the Minister of Health.
The program will be based
in rural southwestern
Ontario, operating, out of the
University of,Western
Ontario at London, and will
be led by Dr. James Rourke.
According to a ministry
press relearse, the program
will receive $150.000 from
the government and will
allow "medical residents to
db their core training in
emergency medicine, internal
medicine, general surgery,
psychiatry and anaesthesia in
Goderich and other rural sites
in southwestern Ontario for
up to six months a year."
