The Huron Expositor, 1996-10-09, Page 2be able to extend technologi- cal partnerships with other area school boards." Brown's letter says "while the advantage gained by extending local calling areas would not be significant for the board itself, it would be important to hundreds of par- ents presently required to make long distance calls to contact area, secondary schools where their children are in daily attendance." The letter to the CRTC says limited local calling "adds significantly to operating expenses for many." The school board also doesn't totally hold with Bell's strict user -pay approach, "wherein the full costs for equipment upgrades are to be borne through local rate increases." "But these issues seem to parallel a generation of lost arguments about who should pay for remote railway lines where profits have not been possible," the letter states. The Huron board endorsed Bell's application for modern equipment in the Seaforth area as "overdue - and long sought by the board to permit local schools to participate more fully in the electronic learning revolution." Seaforth Council endorsed' the Huron board's letter to the CRTC at last Tuesday night's regular meeting.
