cows," said Ken Hunter, of
Godcrich.
Hunter said at a recent
meeting of local municipali-
ties in Clinton, high praise
was given to the Mid -Huron
site.
"Gore and Storric (engi-
neering firm) said we're the
only landfill in the county
that's doing everything right.
They use us as a model for
others," said chair Cox.
Ministry Credit Cut Off
The Ministry of
Transportation's credit has
been cut off at the Mid-
4ron Landfill Site in
Holmcsvillc. According to a
letter from office manager
Ben Munnings, included in
the addendum at the hoard's
Thursday meeting, the min-
istry will he on a cash only
basis when it brings its
garbage to the landfill site in
the future.
"In the past the Ministry of
Transportation has been •over
the 60 days (limit for pay-
ment) but due to the generos-
ity of the Mid -Huron Landfill
Site Board it has, on a case
by case basis, allowed the
ministry to continue to use
their credit account and have

apply to the Board to have its
credit reinstated," concludes

Townsend runner-up
at IPM, Dodds wins title
Huron County did well at
last week's International
Plowing Match in
Ilaldimand-Norfolk near
Selkirk.
Charlene Townsend, this
county's representative in the
Queen of the Furrow contest,
was runner-up, second
amongst the 29 contestants.
She lives at RR 4 Seaforth
and got the nod from the
other contestants as the 1996
IPM's "Miss Congeniality."
Perth County's Pamela
Smelski won.
Paul Dodds of McKillop
Attendance down
Good weather cut into the
attendance at the recent
142nd Mitchell Fall Fair.
"We had average atten-
dance but we can't really
complain," said agriculture
society president John Miller.
"The farmers had work to do
at home. We have to be satis-
fied with what we got."
The Queen of the Fair com-
petition was cancelled this
time around because of a
dearth of contestants.
Organizers hope it will con-
tinue in 1997.
Gains in agriculture
Employment gains in agri-
culture total 22,000 since the
beginning of this year,
according to Statistics
Canada's ongoing labour
force survey.
