Sunday visits for St. Columban residents Ron and Mary Ryan, Marie Hicknell and Cecilia Ryan had a very enjoyable evening on Friday with Jack and Fran Malone at their cottage in Bayfield. Les and Laura Ward of Kitchener spent Sunday after- noon with Gerry and Karen Ryan, Jason, Amanda and Jeremy to celebrate. St. Columban by Cecilia Ryan 345-2028 Amanda's 13th birthday. Visiting on Sunday at the home of Pat Corman, Waterloo were Marie Hicknell and Stephen Hicknell of R.R. 5, Seaforth, Martin and Teresa Van Raay of Dashwood; John and Sheila Hicknell of Sebringville and Chris and Margaret Rooney of Midland where they celebrated the 80th birthday of their father Joe Manley of Stratford and the 25th wedding anniversary of Ruth and Werner Marx of British Columbia. Welcome to new owners of Walton store On behalf of the Walton community I would like to extend our welcome and offer our support to J. Ernteman, who has taken' over the Walton Store as of Sept. 1. J. plans on doing his best to provide the communi- ty with good service and eventually increase the vari- ety of goods in the; store. So Walton by Patty Banks 887-6860 far the only thing to change are the store's hours: Monday - Thursday, 8-9:30; Friday 8- 10; Sat. 9-10 and Sunday 10- 9. Brownie. registration Registration for Brownies, Cubs and Scouts will take place September 12th from 7- 8:30 p.m. at Hensall Public School. A reminder that Hensall Legion is hosting a family style dinner September 15 at 5 p.m. Everyone welcome. Tickets are available from Legion members or phone 262-2722 or 262-2948. At Hensall United Church, Rev. Annen had returned from his vacation. Chuck Mallette was the organist. The service began in the usual manner. The ushers were Lorne Gackstetter and Cecil Pepper. Several guest worshippers were welcomed to the service. On September 29 from 1-3 p.m. a workshop will be held at Ontario St. United Church in Clinton, . on Climate Change. The Youth Group will meet September 15, for more information call Joanne Rowcliffe. A Gospel Music Concert Mansell by Liz Sangster 262-2715 will be held September 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Milverton Mennonite Church. The Official Board of Hensall United Church meet September 18th. For a ride to Hensall United Church call Kay Mock at 262-3231 or Cecil Pepper at 262-2201. The next Hensall and Area Drop -In will be held at Hensall United Church on September 19. A Food Advisor representative will be the guest speaker. The meal will be at noon. Call Marg Cole at 262-2304 for foot care appointment and reservations before noon the previous Monday. The sympathy of the com- munity is extended to the family of the late Duncan Cooper. Legion week starts Sunday Legion Week this year begins on September 15. Watch at the Branch for activities. Saturday September 21 there will be lots gbing on starting at 3 p.m. with a pub afternoon, entertainment from .7 p.m. till 11 p.m. There will be meat draws and horse races. Come out and enjoy the afternoon and evening. The Legion Child identifi- cation program will be begin- ning in the next two weeks. This program has been underway for 11 years now. All school children in pre- kindergarten, Grade 4 and Grade 8 are videotaped every year. This is a Legion financed program and totally confidential. Only children who have consent forms signed by a parent or guardian can be taped and the tape can only be accessed by the parent or guardian and police should a child be miss- ing. If anyone would like more information on this please contact Barbara Scott 527-1787. I do the videotap- ing in this area. The Ladies Auxiliary took their well earned annual bus trip this past weekend and from all accounts had a great time. I joined them Sunday after my war brides reunion and we did have a great time. BJ and Tyce DeJong wish to thank the community for supporting the store for the past 4 years and they wish all the best for J. BJ is looking forward to a change and just wants something different to do. Tyce has opened up his own business in their home, a computer business called "Walton Computer Recycling". Audrey and Howard Hackwell had a visit this past week with Audrey's nephew Brian Marks and his wife Linda from Calgary. In fact the visiting couple were the last customers in to buy from BJ on her last day at the store. Residents dine with swans What a great summer it has been. Weather co-operated for all outdoor activities at Maplewood Manor. An invitation to the home of Cheryl Wilkinson was gra- ciously accepted by residents of Maplewood. The view from her backyard patio was spectacular. The beautiful fish pond and the large veg- etable garden were admired by all - not to mention the delicious pie that was served. Residents were off in the bus to Stratford where they enjoyed a picnic along the river. The swans were anx- ious visitors and also enjoyed a great picnic with us. Sunshine and a beautiful breeze were the answer to our prayers for our mid -summer barbecue. Family and friends gathered on the front lawn at Maplewood for a barbecue. The musical entertainment by the "Notes of Yesteryear" made the afternoon complete. What a great day it was. Residents were on the road again - this time to the beach in Goderich where they enjoyeda picnic lunch. The picture perfect Flower gardens at the home of Bill Gibson in Hensall were a real treat to residents of Maplewood. After a tour of the grounds we enjoyed an afternoon of music with Joyce Pepper and Bill Gibson. The outing ended with a delicious dessert being served. Thanks for the great hospitality.
