Anne Marie Maloney, president, opened the meeting with prayer. Sister Rita Coyne gave a reading and reflection on prayer. Minutes of the June meeting were given by Joan Murray and approved. Funeral lunches were served at services for Peter Van Drunen, Francis Hicknell and Herman Klaver. In the corre- spondence thank yous were received and an invitation from the Seaforth St. James CWL to celebrate it's 75th anniversary on September 25. There will be a dinner at the Seaforth Legion at 6:30 p.m., a guest speaker and a short program. An upcoming event is Cemetery Sunday Sept. 8 with Mass at 11 a.m. (weather permitting). After the ladies will serve coffee, juice and donuts. The annual "Harvest Dance" will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the St. Columban Church Hall. Thousands call for free flags A dozen students now han- dle between 3,000 to 5,000 calls 'a day for the free Canadian flags originally promoted by Heritage Minister Sheila Copps for Flag Day next February. The Canadian Heritage Department, with an operat- ing budget of $56.3 -million, says the free flags might end up costing it $23 -million, money that hasn't been bud- geted for.
