roughly 20,000 people in town. About 4,00 bean and pork chop meals were served.

winter programs is next
Wednesday and Thursday
nights, Sept. 4 and 5 at the
Seaforth and District
Community Centres from 7
to 9 p.m.. This is an opportu-
nity to register for hockey,
ringette, figure skating,
broomball, curling, children's
power skating and more.
Most groups have late fees,
so register on these two'
nights and save money. The
Seaforth Ringette
Association would like to
announce that all new players
need to bring a copy of their
birth certificate when regis-
tering. The local ringette
association is also accepting
registrations for the ringette
school Sept. 9 to the 13. For

TENNIS TAKES TURN FOR BETTER IN TOWN - The
local tennis courts were busier than usual this summer as
the Seaforth Recreation Department offered tennis
lessons, taught by Hank Binnendyk, at the local courts.
This was the. Tuesday morning -class for teens.

The annual Terry Fox run
will be held in Seaforth on,
Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996.
Pledge sheets will be around

The Seaforth Recreation
Department is hosting power
skating for children , ages 7
to 16 years, from Monday,
Sept. 16 to Thursday, Sept.
26. It will total of eight, one-
hour ice times. Registration
fee is $45.
The parent and tot play
group begins again on
Tuesday mornings from 9 to
11:30 am, starting Sept. 10 at
Northside United Church.
All tots and parents are wel-
come. Children will enjoy
games, toys, singing and
interaction with others.
The recreation department
hosts a hockey skills devel-
opment camp beginning
Sun., Sept. 15. This camp
will run Sunday, Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday ,for
two weeks 'giving the partici-
pants 13 hours of ice time. ,
Registration fee is $60, and
the camp is open to all chil-
dren ages 8 to 13 years. Your
instructor will be Brian
O'Rielly. This camp will
give the participant an early
chance to tone up their skills
before the skating season
swings into full action. To

istration nights at the arena
on Sept. 4 and 5.

"Fitness is Fun" also
begins next month, with
Tuesday morning gentle aer-
obics, Tuesday morning line
dancing, Wednesday evening
step training, Wednesday
evening aerobics, and
Thursday morning gentle aer-
obics. All classes begin the
week of Sept. 17. In a report
from the Surgeon General,
we have engineered our-
selves out of inactivity,. 1/4
of a million deaths each year
are due to inactivity.
Physical Activity does not
need' to be vigorous to
improve your health. Health
benefits appear to be propor-
tional to amount of activity,
thus every increase in activity
adds some benefit.

Board resigns
All five members of Grand
Bend's parks and recreation
advisory committee have
resigned over a disagreement
with village council concern-
ing the board's mandate and
authority. A beach enhance-
ment project seems at the
root of the conflict.
Council accepted the resig-
nations with regret.
Blyth event draws many
An estimated 600 people
attended Homecoming 1896-
1.996 in Blyth [tie second
weekend in August.
Organizers say the event
went very well and drew for-
mer residents from as far
away as Florida and Texas.

Police say no need to rush
With school about to start
and the last big weekend of
summer in a couple of days,
the Ontario Provincial Police
urges drivers to be both
patient and courteous on our
busy roads this Labour Day.
"It is suggested that plan-
ning extra time for travel will
reduce the impulse to speed,"
a press release from the
Goderich detachment notes.
"Common sense saves
lives."
Last Labour Day weekend,
10 people were killed on
Ontario highways and two
more died in boating acci-
dents investigated by the
OPP.
