Chicken Pluckers from town co-ed mush ball "B" winners in Walton
The Walton Ladies Slow
Pitch sponsored a co-ed mush
ball tournament this week-
end. The winners of the A
division were the Red Dogs
of Lucknow. The runners-up
for the A division were the
"This and That" team made
up of Walton and Blyth play-
ers. The Chicken Pluckers
from Seaforth were the win-
ners of the B division. The
tournament was successful
and everyone had a great
time.
Anyone driving by the
Walton school will see the
new playground equipment.

with the installation of the
equipment.
Howard and Audrey
Hackwell did very well at
their garage sale this past Sat.
In fact it was so successful
that they will be holding two
more in September.
I got a call from a reader
recently telling me of a "bull"
story. The reader's uncle told
him about this rancher near
Calgary who raised purebred
charolais cattle and was dis-
covering his cows were
throwing these half Hereford
calves. His neighbors' bull
had been jumping the fence
at will and apparently this
had been going on for quite a
spell. Let's say that one day
the fence jumping Hereford
was put back on his own side
without part of his anatomy
and the owner was presented
with what Westerners call
"Rocky Mountain Oysters."

The regular Sunday morn-
ing liturgy on Aug. 4 at St.
Patrick's Church, Dublin,
recognized the 150th birthday
of Hibbert Township. Over
500 people filled the church
for this special celebration.
Rev. John Costello, a son
of the parish gave the homi-
ly. He humorously and suc-
cinctly reminded all present
of the importance to respect,
cherish and value their her-
itage. Also present to concel-
ebrate Mass with Father Del
Ciancio, pastor of St.
Patrick's were Rev. James
Carrigan, Rev. Richard
Bester and Rev. Martin
Nyland. Prior to the celebra-
tion the congregation was
privileged to listen to Dr.
Paul Horan, Professor at New
York University play the
church organ.

"Early Bird" campaign to start
The early bird campaign for
payment of dues starts Sept.
1. Dues this year will be $33
(including tax) for ordinary
associate, and honorary
member $38, including tax.
The increase is due to new
government regulations.
Please pay your dues as early
as possible and help Seaforth
branch 156 of the Royal
Canadian Legion be a 100
per cent early bird.
As I reported earlier this
year, we are collecting toi-
letry articles for the veterans
at Parkwood Hospital. Owing
to government cutbacks these
items are no longer supplied
to the veterans, so they have
to purchase them themselves. •
Kleenex, toothpaste and
brushes, combs, aftershave,
shaving creams etc. are
things needed. Playing cards

The neighbors are still
friends and even have a good
laugh about it now and then.
I doubt if the steer found any-
thing too humorous about the
whole deal. This leads me
into another animal story. I
was out in the barn in the
mow throwing straw down
the holes to the cows below.
Well it seemed like a long
climb back to the door now
that the mow is full of straw,
so I thought I'd take the
quick way down. It was
quick but I didn't land with
the grace and dignity I had
intended. Thank heavens
there was a pile of straw. I
was sure that I saw a few
cows with smirks on their
faces and I know a few rolled
their eyes at the sight. I was
telling my landlord, Henry
Grobbink this and he said
that one time when he was
milking in the old barn where
there were gangways, he
looked up and he saw these
legs and then the whole cow
come falling through the hay
hole. It's so much fun being a
farmer! If anyone has a story
of- their own I'd love to hear
about it.

Emmrich have returned from
