Howard and Audrey Hackwell did very well at their garage sale this past Sat. In fact it was so successful that they will be holding two more in September. I got a call from a reader recently telling me of a "bull" story. The reader's uncle told him about this rancher near Calgary who raised purebred charolais cattle and was dis- covering his cows were throwing these half Hereford calves. His neighbors' bull had been jumping the fence at will and apparently this had been going on for quite a spell. Let's say that one day the fence jumping Hereford was put back on his own side without part of his anatomy and the owner was presented with what Westerners call "Rocky Mountain Oysters." Many pack St. Patrick's for Hibbert celebration Joan M. Dow, President of the St. Patrick's CWL would like to thank everyone for their support in the draw held at the Township of Hibbert Sesquicentennial celebration. THOUGHT FOR TODAY The time to make friends is before you need them! "Early Bird" campaign to start The early bird campaign for payment of dues starts Sept. 1. Dues this year will be $33 (including tax) for ordinary associate, and honorary member $38, including tax. The increase is due to new government regulations. Please pay your dues as early as possible and help Seaforth branch 156 of the Royal Canadian Legion be a 100 per cent early bird. I doubt if the steer found any- thing too humorous about the whole deal. This leads me into another animal story. I was out in the barn in the mow throwing straw down the holes to the cows below. Well it seemed like a long climb back to the door now that the mow is full of straw, so I thought I'd take the quick way down. It was quick but I didn't land with the grace and dignity I had intended. Thank heavens there was a pile of straw. I was sure that I saw a few cows with smirks on their faces and I know a few rolled their eyes at the sight. I was telling my landlord, Henry Grobbink this and he said that one time when he was milking in the old barn where there were gangways, he looked up and he saw these legs and then the whole cow come falling through the hay hole. It's so much fun being a farmer! If anyone has a story of- their own I'd love to hear about it. Judy, Clint, Katie and Jamie Emmrich have returned from a trip to Saskatchewan (Lintlaw) where they visited with friends. They then drove on to Banff (Alta) and Golden B.C. and to S. Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore.
