Concerns that policing 'problems in Seaforth' have •been given short shrift recently.prompted council, last Tuesday night, to endorse holding a special meeting between the local Police Services Board and Ontario Provincial Police later this month. • There is frustration that per- haps we are not getting exactly what we feel is being paid for, said deputy -reeve Bill Teall, council's represen- tative on the PSB. Foot patrols,. mileage, bylaw enforcement and tele- phone expenses are concerns the police board feels are not being addressed. The OPP was not -at the last police board meeting July 29, as has been standard practice, so Chair Bob •Dinsmore instructed secretary Lin Steffler to forward the mem- orandum of complaints to last week's council meeting on behalf of the PSB. Among other concerns, list- ed in this memo: • "It has been reported to us (PSB) that the cruiser was parked at Market and High Streets on July 9 from 10:55 a.m. to 12:40 p.m:" • "The monthly recap report for June indicates we are being charged for 3,800 kms. On the surface, this seems excessive." ' • "New bylaw re heavy trucks is not being enforced. 1 hree reports received that trucks are still parking on res- idential streets. • "Only three parking tick- ets issued in June. Two park- ing tickets have been issued from July 1 -17. Driving through town between 4:30 and 5 p.m. on any business day could result in a larger number than those stated." • "No significant decrease in phone bills...July 13 bill was $124.65...22 calls were made to Goderich. Two calls in particular ( a 522 number) lasted a total of 34 minutes." tit • 1 FLOWER SHOW - The Seaforth Horticultural Society had a flower show at the local branch of'the Royal Canadian Legion last Wednesday. The lights are only to he used by members of the vol- unteer, force on the way to the firehall in an emergency. They plug into a lighter socket and are designed to sit on top of a vehicle's dash- board, shining to the front of reflecting bright in rear-view mirror%the chief says. Garrick adds most area peo- ple know enough to pull over and lot firefighters through when the siren sounds, although the local siren has been known to freeze in past winters_ He thinks.the new green lights will make it easi- er forout-of-towners passing through Seaforth to realize they should get out of the way.
